West Indies qualified for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, following their victory over Scotland in the Super Sixes match of World Cup qualifiers. Windies progressed to the finals of the ICC World Cup Qualifiers 2018 as well after registering a five-run win via DLS method. Scotland, chasing a paltry target of 199, were 125/5 in 35.2 overs when play was stopped due to heavy rain. With no relent in rains, the match was eventually called-off.

Unfortunately for Scotland, few overs before the play was stopped Richie Berrington was adjudged lbw (leg before wicket). However, the replays suggested that the ball was going down the leg. With no Decision Review System (DRS) available, Berrington was given the marching orders. Interestingly, if he was given not out, Scotland would have been ahead of the DLS by three runs. Berrington was dismissed after playing a patient knock of 33 from 68 balls.

Following the result, West Indies qualified for the next year’s World Cup while Scotland miss out. Scotland lost their match against Ireland on Sunday and thus faced a must-win situation against West Indies.

While West Indies have taken one of the two spots, the second place is up for grabs. If Zimbabwe beat UAE, they will qualify. In case they lose, the winner between Ireland and Afghanistan encounter will progress to final and tournament proper.

Coming back to the West Indies vs. Scotland match, the latter got off to a great start after opting to bowl first. West Indies were two down with just two runs on board. However, Evin Lewis and Marlon Samuels added 121 runs for the third wicket to bail West Indies out of trouble.

The Jason Holder-led side, however, were bowled out for 198. In response, Scotland kept losing wickets at the regular intervals and when rain arrived they had lost half the side. However, they were decently placed with 74 to win from 88 balls.
