Former Pakistan coach and commentator Waqar Younis took to Twitter to apologise for cutting a cake on his former teammate Wasim Akram’s birthday during the month of Ramzan. Waqar and Akram both were in England as commentators for Pakistan’s recently concluded tour of England. During the second Test, on June 03, at Leeds Akram celebrated his birthday. To mark the celebrations, Akram and along with Waqar decided to cut the cake. Apparently, both the former cricketers were not observing the fast.

After the visuals were shared on social media sites, fans objected that the duo should have refrained from sharing the pictures as a mark of respect as others are fasting in the holy month of Ramzan.

This prompted Waqar to tender an apology. However, there was no such post from Akram. “Apologise to everyone for cutting cake on Waseem Bhai’s birthday yesterday. We should have respected Ramadan and the people who were fasting ????. It was a poor act on our behalf #SORRY,” Waqar tweeted.

Here are the pictures of Wasim Akram cutting the cake.

During the holy month of Ramzan, Muslims across the globe refrain from eating or drinking during the daytime. The food can be only taken after the sunset and before the dawn. Also, those who do not fast, for personal reasons, as a mark of respect do not eat in front of those who are keeping the mandatory fasts. During the holy month, restaurants and food joints do not operate as well during the daytime in Muslim dominated areas.
