India lost the first T20I against Australia despite the heroics of Shikhar Dhawan who scored 76 runs from 42 balls. The visitors lost only by four runs at the Gabba, Bristol as the match went down the live wire. After winning the toss, India elected to field first. The play was interrupted due to rain and the overs were reduced to 17 and the target 174 runs. Dhawan and Rohit Sharma gave a good start to India but soon wickets started falling and the Australians walked away with the match.
