Bangladesh National Cricket Team kept their qualification to Super Eight hopes alive with a stunning win over the Netherlands National Cricket Team in the Group D match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Shakib Al Hasan played a crucial role in the all-important fixture with a knock of 64 runs and was named man of the match. Shakib was earlier criticised by former Indian opener Virender Sehwag who advised the all-rounder to play to his strength rather than trying to copy Adam Gilchrist or Matthew Hayden. When asked about these comments, Shakib first asked ‘Who?’ directly taking a dig at Sehwag. The 37-year-old then added, “A player’s task is to bat if he is a batter, contribute to the team, bowl well if he is a bowler as getting wickets sometimes also depends on luck, and if he is a fielder then to save runs and take the catches that come his way,” Virender Sehwag Slams Shakib Al Hasan for Poor Show in T20 World Cup 2024, Says 'You Are Not Adam Gilchrist or Matthew Hayden... You are a Bangladeshi Player, Play According to Your Strength'.

The former Bangladesh skipper cleared his stand on the topic and form. He mentioned that there is nothing to answer to anyone and it was not unwarranted for a player to be criticised from the outside. Shakib Al Hasan said, “I think when a current player is not being able to contribute to the team as much as is expected of him then it usually invites a lot of questions, and I don’t think it is a very bad thing,” Shakib Al Hasan Wins Man of the Match Award in Bangladesh vs Netherlands ICC T20 World Cup 2024 Group D Match.
