Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has criticised team India following their shambolic defeat against England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. India were handed a defeat by an innings and 159 runs after being bowled out for 130 in their second innings. Sehwag took to Twitter and rated India’s performance as ‘very poor’. He also said that the Virat Kohli and Co showed no ability to fight.
“Very poor from India. While we all want to stand by our team and support them when they don’t do well, going down without a fight is very disappointing to watch. Hope they have the confidence and mental strength to comeback from this,” tweeted Sehwag. The defeat now means India are trailing the five-match series 0-2 now with three Tests to go. After day one of the Lord’s Test was washed out, India were bundled out for just 107 runs on the second day. James Anderson claimed a five-wicket haul to push India on the back-foot. The conditions were very difficult to bat but England bowled superbly and made great use of the conditions. Real test of character for a batsman is when you can do well in difficult conditions against a good bowling attack.

Responding to India’s paltry 107, England, thanks to Jonny Bairstow and Chris Woakes’ effort, managed to secure a valuable lead of 289 runs. The hosts declared their innings at 396 for seven on day four morning. Woakes remained unbeaten on 137 while Bairstow was unlucky to miss out on a century. He was dismissed on 93. The third Test between India and England now takes place at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham from August 18 onwards.
