Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag has fired a huge bombshell on Bangladesh all rounder Shakib Al Hasan and believes that he should be ashamed of his recent numbers in international cricket.
Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is a legend of modern-day cricket and also one of the father figures in the history of Bangladesh cricket. Shakib helped Bangladesh achieve global status and success. The left-handed bowling all-rounder has played 438 matches in international cricket so far with 14526 runs with the bat and 700 wickets with the ball. Shakib has led the Bangla Tigers in many major ICC events out of which the most recent one was the 2023 ODI World Cup. Just like every other team, Bangladesh are going through a transition phase where the experts are demanding senior players including Shakib to retire from international cricket and make way for young talent. While speaking to Cricbuzz, Virender Sehwag believes that Shakib Al Hasan must be ashamed of his recent numbers in T20I cricket and announce his retirement. Sehwag stated that Shakib to prove his worth in the team and showcase his experience. Sehwag said, "During the last World Cup, I thought he should no longer be picked for the T20 format. Time for retirement came a long time ago. You are such a senior player, you were the captain of this team. You should actually be ashamed of your recent numbers. You should come forward and announce yourself that enough is enough, I'm retiring from this format." Virender Sehwag added, "If you are picked in the World Cup squad for your experience, then show that it was actually worth it. You need to spend some time at the crease at least. You are not Adam Gilchrist or Matthew Hayden. Hooks and pulls are not your strengths You are a Bangladeshi player. You play according to your strength."
Shakib Al Hasan has proved to be a flop in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024. Shakib was picked up by the selectors on the basis of his experience, however, with every passing day his age, if he continues his poor performance he may be dropped from the squad.
