If Virender Sehwag’s advice has to be considered, the former Indian cricketer has advocated for KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw to open for India in the first Test match as they take on Australia, beginning from December 6. Not just that, Sehwag has backed the duo to open in all the four Test matches of the tour Down Under!

Virender Sehwag said Murali Vijay had had his fair amount of chances to prove himself; however, he hasn’t been able to do so. Sehwag said that the Indian team management should persist with the opening pair of KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw throughout the Test series. Talking to Cricbuzz Sehwag said, “I think if I am the captain I will give full series to KL Rahul and Prithvi Shaw because Murali Vijay got his chance and now he has to wait for his chance again. If anyone flops in eight innings, then I will think of giving Murali Vijay a chance. I think those who have been waiting for their turn should get a fair chance to prove themselves.”

The former Indian opener sees future in Prithvi Shaw, and rightly so, given how the 19-year-old had performed in his debut Test series. Also, his flamboyant half-century in the practice match against Cricket Australia XI has all but made him seal his spot in the side as an opener. Prithvi Shaw Scores an Eloquent Half-Century in a Practice Match Against Cricket Australia XI: Watch Video Highlights.

Virender Sehwag said, “Prithvi Shaw has proved himself. He scored a hundred on debut and scored 60 odd runs in the next match so he is the future and he will play for the next 10-12 years. So he should get the full quota of matches in the series. I don’t see Murali Vijay playing in the Test matches in Australia.”

It will be interesting to see what team combination will team India field in the first Test match at the Adelaide Cricket Ground, Adelaide, starting December 6! Will Prithvi Shaw recover in time, or will the injury be a chance for Murali Vijay to hold on? Stay tuned with LatestLY for the all the latest news updates about India vs Australia Series 2018-19!
