A huge blow for Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli as he is likely to miss out on making his county debut ahead of the two-month-long England vs India series. The 29-year-old is suffering from a herniated disc (slipped disc), which is why the star cricketer will not be playing the scheduled County cricket with Surrey. According to reports, Virat Kohli has been advised by a leading Orthopaedic surgeon at a Mumbai hospital to take rest and recover from the slipped disc and not aggravate it any further. Kohli had signed to play with Surrey as a part of preparations ahead of the tough India tour of England 2018 beginning from July 3 and last until September 7.
Virat Kohli has had a forgettable tournament in Indian Premier League 2018 after his side failed to make to the playoffs yet again. But the non-stop playing season has started showing its adverse effects on Kohli. The star Indian captain is suffering from a slipped disc as well as fatigue. One of the top orthopaedic surgeons who practises at Khar hospital in Mumbai has diagnosed Kohli’s health problems as a result of his intense workload. The medical practitioner has advised the Indian cricket captain to take a complete rest, or he may have to sit out of the much-anticipated India vs England tour. Missing out on participating in the County cricket is indeed a massive setback for Kohli who was keen on playing in the tournament in order to get used to the English conditions ahead of the challenging tour. He had a miserable outing during the 2014 India’s Tour of England and hence was hopeful of using the county experience in the forthcoming series. In fact, his decision to opt for county cricket over the upcoming India vs Afghanistan one-off Test match had resulted in much controversy. And now, in the end, it looks like Virat will not be playing in either of the two series.
A BCCI Official speaking to TOI was quoted saying, “Kohli was not to feature in the historic maiden Test match against Afghanistan next month, and now with this injury, his county stint will not take off either.” The official added that Virat Kohli would not need surgery and that is a much relief for the Indian side and Kohli fans.
