Virat Kohli and his men could become the first team to win a T20I series in New Zealand if they manage to trample the hosts in the upcoming five-match T20I series, starting January 24, 2020 (Friday). India had departed for New Zealand on Monday, a day after beating Australia by 7 wickets to seal ODI series 2-1after going a game down.

Virat Kohli-led team India touched New Zealand for a five-match T20I series, with the series set to kick-start on January 24, 2020 (Friday). Having enjoyed a dominant and overwhelming home season post the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup, team India have embarked on a new away mission hoping to extend their rich form overseas. Captain Virat Kohli, who is aiming to become the first Indian skipper to win a T20I series on New Zealand soil, shared a picture with some teammates hours after landing in Auckland where India play the first two T20I matches of the series. “Touchdown Auckland. Let’s go,” wrote Kohli on a picture with Shreyas Iyer and Shradul Thakur. Kohli wasn’t the only one sharing pictures after the Indian team’s arrival at Auckland. Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma have also taken to their social media accounts to share pictures with their national teammates. “Ready for New Zealand,” wrote Rohit on his Instagram picture. The Indian limited-overs deputy captain’s century was pivotal in India chasing down the 288-run target in the deciding ODI match in Bengaluru.

Meanwhile, the Indian team has already lost opener Shikhar Dhawan to a shoulder injury before the New Zealand tour. Dhawan injured himself while fielding in the 3rd ODI match at Bengaluru and has been ruled out from the entire New Zealand tour with Sanju Samson named as his replacement in the T20Is and Prithvi Shaw for the ODI series.
