Yesterday, the Royal Challengers Bangalore lost the match against the Mumbai Indians by 46 runs against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium. RCB captain Virat Kohli’s unbeaten knock of 92 garnered him the Orange Cap. But dejected Kohli was in no mood to wear the cap.
He said, "I don't really want to wear the orange cap right now. Mumbai played well, we didn't get any chances, and when you have your back against the wall - like they did - they could play fearlessly. We tried our hardest but couldn't get the breakthroughs in after the two early wickets.”
Kohli’s frustration was quite evident during the last two balls of the innings. During the second last delivery of the innings, the skipper turned down a single and on the last ball, Virat just played it as if he had no interest left in the game. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that captain just gave up during the last two balls of the game and did not deliver 100%. Scoring a couple of runs on the last two deliveries could have reduced the gap of net runs rate which exists between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. As of now, RCB and MI both have won only one match but the difference in the NRR has caused Virat’s team to have occupied position 7.
Undoubtedly Kohli’s inning was phenomenal and the skipper had an awesome strike rate but a couple of runs could have helped the team in the long run. We say this because there have been times that the NRR has been the decider. Maybe Kohli could not take those runs due to some reasons, but the lack of effort was evident. Being the skipper of team, one needs to fight until the last ball. We laud his efforts but somewhere we do feel that he needs to keep calm.
