Virat Kohli had requested the BCCI to allow their spouse to be with them on an overseas tour. On it, the BCCI has confirmed that the captain of the Indian team had requested about the same. However, the Committee of Administrators (CoA), on Sunday, has said that there cannot be a decision on it anytime soon!
As per the Indian Express report, the Indian team captain had first approached a top BCCI official with the same request. However, he was told to consult the Supreme Court appointed CoA which is currently headed by Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji.
As per the sources, “The request was made a few weeks back, but as it is a BCCI policy decision, the manager will have to submit a formal request first. Anushka has been travelling with Kohli overseas. However, Kohli now wants the old rule to be abolished, and a new policy should come up where wives should be allowed to travel with the Indian team.”
Recently on their tour to England, India’s disastrous in the Test series saw them lose it 4-1. Much of the failures were attributed to how the Indian players were seen holidaying in England with their family. Fans on social media had a field day as Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Hardik Pandya amongst other put their selfies on their respective social media accounts.
The BCCI had first banned Wives and Girlfriends (WAGs) on tour, and later changed its previous decision and then restricted the stay to three weeks.
India will be touring to Australia in a full-fledged series later this year. Will the BCCI change considering the request of the Indian team captain or not, is for time to tell! For now, the BCCI has itself found in soup with controversies in context of the Indian cricket board coming under the ambit of RTI.
