Virat Kohli Recalls Being Asked to Give a Speech as a Youngster in Team India Dressing Room
The Indian captain also recalled the moment when he first heard about his selection into the Indian cricket team.
As a youngster walking into the Indian cricket team’s dressing room would make any cricketer nervous. By any, we mean even the courageous Virat Kohli. Known for his boldness, Kohli has revealed that when he first stepped into the dressing room he was nervous and on top of that was asked to give a speech during a team meeting. Kohli says it was done to intimidate him, which has now become a norm whenever a youngster arrives in the Indian cricket team’s dressing room.
"I clearly remember walking into the team meeting. I was asked to give a speech in the team room. It was nerve-wracking for me with so many great Indian players there. They were looking at me. Which we now do to younger guys to intimidate them, make them nervous (smiles). These are my first memories," Kohli said in a recent interview to Times of India.
The Indian captain also recalled the time when he first heard about his selection into the Indian team. "I clearly remember sitting with my mom and watching the news on the day of the selection meeting. My name just flashed on the TV but I thought they might just be spreading a rumour. Five minutes later, I got a call from the board. I got goosebumps. I was shaking," Kohli said.
Meanwhile, Kohli is plying his trade in the Indian Premier League 2018 (IPL 2018) and is captaining the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Despite Kohli’s good form, RCB are lagging in the bottom-half of the IPL 2018 points with just three wins from nine matches.
