Indian captain Virat Kohli faced lower back issue during the second Test against England at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. Kohli had to leave the field on day three following the strain. And on day four too the Indian captain was off the field. After sounding some time off the ground, Kohli wasn’t eligible to bat at his regular position of four. Ajinkya Rahane had to bat at four while Kohli dropped to five. The Indian skipper managed to score just 17 runs in the second innings. Kohli following the match, which India lost by an innings and 159-run runs, cited workload for his lower back trouble. When asked about his lower back, Kohli said: “Five days to go (for the third Test), should be okay. Lower back issue coming up again and again, purely because of the workload. Confident I'll be fine in five days time.”
The Indian captain also said that he was not proud of how India performed at Lord’s. "Not very proud of the way we played to be honest. First time in last five Test matches we've been outplayed. Credit to England. They were clinical. When a team plays like that they deserve to be on the winning side. Can't really think about the conditions not in favour. You have to counter the conditions as and when they come to you. Ind vs Eng 2nd Test Day 4- As it Happened.
"Can't crib about these things. Sometimes the rub of the green will go your way too. Won't sit around and say that we didn't have the best of conditions. Their bowlers were relentless with the ball. Looking at things now, the weather was so unpredictable,” Kohli said.
Kohli also admitted to having got the combination wrong for the Lord’s Test. India dropped pacer Umesh Yadav and brought in spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who was ineffective as the conditions suited fast bowlers. He, however, said that the team think-tank has a chance to correct it in the next game.
