Captaincy records will be at stake when Virat Kohli leads India to the West Indies. The Indian skipper had enjoyed a decent record as captain of the Indian National Cricket Team with and averages over 50 in win/loss ratio across all formats. Kohli was handed reins of the Test team in 2014, while he became a regular limited-overs Indian captain in 2017 after MS Dhoni had resigned from the post. Kohli has since then led India in 125 matches – across all formats – and won 94 games. Virat Kohli Can Break THESE Records Held by Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma on India vs West Indies 2019 Tour.

Kohli has already led India to a Test series victory in 2016 when the visitors beat West Indies 2-0 to win the four-match Test series. He also led India to 3-1 ODI series victory in the Caribbean a year later. West Indies though got the better of India in the T20 format. Indian Captain with Most Test Wins

Kohli remains one Test win away from becoming the captain to have led India in the most number of Test wins. The 30-year-old has so far led India in 46 Test games and has won 26 of them. Dhoni with 27 Test wins in the only captain ahead of Kohli. With India set to play two Test matches in the Caribbean, Kohli has a very good opportunity to not just equal Dhoni but also overtake him.

Most Away Test Victories

Kohli is currently tied with former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly on 11 away Test victories, which is the joint-most by any Indian captain. He needs to win just one of the two-Test matches in the Caribbean and Kohli will the most successful Indian captain aboard. Kohli has so far led India in 25 Test matches and won 11, while Ganguly has 11 wins from 21 games.

Player to Play Third-highest number of Tests as Captain

Kohli is fifth in the list of most matches as captain of the Indian team. MS Dhoni leads the chart having played 60 Test matches as Indian captain, while Ganguly with 49 games is second. Mohammad Azharuddin and Sunil Gavaskar are third and fourth currently with 47 Tests each.

But Kohli can overtake them if he leads India in both the Test matches against West Indies. It will take Kohli’s record as India Test captain to 48 matches leaving him just behind Sourav Ganguly before India play Bangladesh and South Africa later this year.
