Virat Kohli Breaks Javed Miandad’s 26-Year-Old Record of Most ODI Runs Scored against West Indies during IND vs WI 2nd ODI Match

Virat Kohli added another feather to his already illustrious cap by smashing a 26-year-old batting record held by the Pakistani great Javed Miandad. The Indian skipper surpassed Miandad to become the highest ODI run-scorer against the West Indies. Kohli achieved the milestone when he was on 20 runs and reached the top of the illustrious list in 30 fewer matches than the Pakistani legend. Kohli has always enjoyed batting against West Indies and has his second-best strike rate against them. The 30-year-old came into this fixture only 19 runs away from overtaking Miandad’s 1930 runs to become the batsman with most runs scored against the West Indies. But while Miandad took 64 innings to score 1930 runs against the Caribbean nation, Kohli reached the milestone in just 34 innings. Former Australia captain Mark Waugh is third in the illustrious list with 1708 runs in 47 matches, while South African Jacques Kallis and Rameez Raja of Pakistan complete the top five. Kallis scored 1666 run in 40 games, while Raza smashed 1624 runs in 53 games.

The Indian skipper completed the feat in the sixth over bowled by Jason Holder. He started the over on 19 runs from 18 deliveries and reached the milestone in the second delivery after guiding the ball to deep backward point for a single.

The first game between India and West Indies was washed out due to inclement weather and poor pitch conditions at the Providence Stadium in Guyana. India had earlier clean swept the T20I series 3-0 and are aiming to continue their dominance in the three-match ODI series. Following the conclusion of the ODI series, India and West Indies will face each other in two Test matches in Antigua and Jamaica.
