The fourth and final Test between India and Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) ended in a draw after day five was washed out due to persistent rains. Australia after being made to follow-on were batting on 6/0 when play was called off on day four. In fact, India now becomes the first and only Asian team to win a Test series in Australia. And, Virat Kohli, apparently, is the first ever Asian captain to win a Test series on Australian soil. After 11 Test tours to Australia, India finally tasted success for the first time in 70 years. Previously, India had lost eight and drawn three series’ against Australia in Australia.

India came into the fourth Test having already retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy at Melbourne. And needed a win or even a draw to clinch their maiden Test series win in Australia. India began the Test series on winning note in Adelaide. However, Australia bounced back to draw level in Perth. India then snatched back the lead in Melbourne and in Sydney strengthened their position in the Test series.

Cheteshwar Pujara, who scored 521 runs, was awarded man of the series. At Sydney, the right-handed batsman scored his third century of the series. He, however, missed the double-century by just seven runs.
