We Take a Look at the List of Records That Virat Kohli Made and Broke During His Innings of 157 Runs Against West Indies in the Second ODI.

1. Virat Kohli became the fastest man to score 10,000 ODI runs. He reached the landmark figure in only 205 innings, 54 fewer innings than Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster held the record previously, which he made during a match against Australia in 2001. Tendulkar had reached his 10,000 ODI run in the 259th inning.

2. Virat Kohli also became the fastest batsman to reach 10,000 ODI runs, not only regarding the number of innings, but also in terms of balls faced. Kohli reached the mark while playing his 10,813th ball, while the previous record was held by Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya, who had needed 11,296 balls.

3. Not just in terms of innings, and balls faced, but also in terms of days since making his debut, Virat Kohli is now the fastest cricketer to reach the 10,000-run mark in ODI cricket. The previous record was set by Rahul Dravid who took 3,969 days to score as many runs; whereas, Kohli scored it in only 3,719 days after making his debut.

4. After Andrew Strauss, Virat Kohli is now the second captain to score 150+ runs in ODI cricket. The right-handed batsman had scored 160 runs against South Africa, and remained unbeaten, earlier this year.

5. Scoring back-to-back centuries in cricket is impressive, but what shall we call if the batsman has scored a hat-trick of centuries? After AB de Villiers, Kohli became the second batsman to score a hat-trick of hundreds in India. One of his previous two centuries came against New Zealand, last year, while the second century was in the previous match against West Indies.

6. Virat Kohli also became the fastest batsman to score 1,000 runs in a calendar year. Kohli scored 1,000 runs this year, in only 11 innings; whereas, the record was previously held by South Africa’s Hashim Amla who took 15 innings in 2010. Kohli had taken 15 innings, too, to score as many runs in 2012.

7. During his fine-knock of 157 runs, Virat Kohli also surpassed AB de Villiers’ record of scoring 4,000 ODI runs in a single country. De Villiers had taken 91 innings to score 4,000 ODI runs in South Africa; whereas, Kohli only took 78 innings to score the same number of runs in India.

8. Virat Kohli went past Australian great Ricky Ponting too. Kohli took 137 innings (as a captain) 50 fewer than Ponting’s 187 innings, to score 8,000 international runs. Anushka Sharma Screams 'What a Man' After Virat Kohli Becomes Fastest Batsman to Score 10,000 ODI Runs (View Pics).

Every time Virat Kohli has come out to bat, he has smashed records more often than not. With a knack of breaking and making batting records at will, Kohli has been in supreme form in the last three years. The Indian skipper is setting extraordinary benchmarks for the contemporary cricket players across the globe.
