Virat Kohli is on the brink of becoming the first Indian captain to register a Test series win in India. With rains and bad light making it presence felt on last two days of the fourth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), team India is inching towards the historic first-ever Test series win on Australian soil. India came into the fourth Test with an unassailable 2-1 lead in the series. Team India has never won a Test series against Australia in Australia and the Kohli-led Indian team is all set to script a history. Out of 11 Test series’ contested between these two teams in Australia, the hosts have won eight while three have ended in draws. The last time India managed to draw a series in Australia was during the 2003-04 tour under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy. The four-match series ended at one each. India won the second Test while Australia walked away with honours in the third Test. The first and last Tests finished as draws.

The win at Melbourne was India’s only seventh Test victory over Australia in Australia. This is also for the first time after 1977/78, that India have managed to win two Tests on an Australian tour. Interestingly, the win at MCG was India’s 150th Test victory.

Kohli, who is the only Asian captain to win Tests in Australia, England, and South Africa, will be eager to add another feather in his cap. Kohli after the victory in Adelaide became the first Indian captain to register a win in the opening Test of a series in Australia.
