Viral FB Post Claiming MS Dhoni to Play ICC World Cup T20 2020 is FAKE! Indian Wicket-Keeper Made No Such Announcement on Social Media

An MS Dhoni’s tweet claiming that he will be playing World T20 2020 next year has come out as a fake. The tweet was shared on a Facebook page titled ‘MS DHONI FANS PAGE’. The tweet showed a blue tick with the former Indian captain’s name.

An MS Dhoni’s tweet claiming that he will be playing World T20 2020 next year has come out as fake. The tweet was shared on a Facebook page titled ‘MS DHONI FANS PAGE’. The tweet showed a blue tick with the former Indian captain’s name. The Facebook post sharing the fake tweet became viral with many shares and reposts. The tweet read, “I know all India disappointment with us after this semis and trolling about my retirement. But this is not the right time to leave my team like this. FANS...no need to worry.. I will play 2020 ICC T20 World Cup in Aus. Keep Supporting”. However, reports found out that the tweet was totally fake and was a clever piece of photo editing. MS Dhoni Makes Himself Unavailable for West Indies Tour, to Serve His Regiment. 

The fake post has been shared 12,000 times so far. The account of the fake tweet was named Mahendra Singh Dhoni. However, the tweet did not carry the name of the Twitter handle as well as the date of the tweet wasn’t visible. This clearly indicated that the tweet was not genuine and just a work of photo editing software. The original Twitter handle of MS Dhoni did not have any such tweet. The last tweet from Indian wicketkeeper’s Twitter account was made on May 6, 2019. Meanwhile, on Saturday, MS made himself unavailable for India vs West Indies 2019 series. Dhoni told BCCI that he will go on a two-month break from the game to serve his paramilitary regiment. Dhoni is an Honorary Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Territorial Army. "We would like to clarify three things. MS Dhoni is not retiring from cricket right now. He is taking a two-month sabbatical to serve his paramilitary regiment which he had committed much earlier. We have now intimated his decision to skipper Virat Kohli and chairman of selectors MSK Prasad," a senior BCCI official had told PTI on Saturday. The Indian team for West Indies 2019 tour is going to be announced on Sunday, July 21. The tour of West Indies will start from August 3, 2019 and consists of three T20, three ODIs and two Tests.
