Vinay Kumar Says Goodbye to Karnataka Cricket After 15-Year-Long Journey, the Right-Arm Bowler to Join Puducherry As Player-Mentor

Indian cricketer Vinay Kumar has said goodbye to Karnataka cricket as he set to move to Puducherry as a player and mentor. Kumar had a 15 years long career with the Karnataka team. He informed about his decision to everyone on Twitter on Tuesday, calling the journey with Karnataka cricket as wonderful, memorable and unforgettable.

"It has been a great journey with Karnataka cricket. It is high time for me to give a chance to youngsters. I remember that Venkatesh Prasad made way for me when I came into the side as a 21-year-old. It is now time for me to do the same. Kumar was part of the Karnataka team which won successive Ranji Trophy tournaments in 2013-14 and 2014-15. The team also bagged the Vijay Hazare and Irani Cup in the same seasons. Kumar, a right-handed pacer, is among the best pacers from Karnataka. In his first-class career, Kumar bagged 459 wickets from 130 matches. For Karnataka, Kumar made debut in the 2004-05 season and played 106 Ranji Trophy matches for the team. In his first-class career, he also took 22 five-wicket hauls. His consistent show for Karnataka also earned him a spot in the national side. He has played for India in 1 Test, 31 ODIs and 9 T20s. He clinched 38 wickets in ODIs and 10 wickets in T20, in addition to taking one wicket in Test.

In Indian Premier League, he was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the inaugural season. He was part of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2014 and played for Mumbai Indians in 2015 season. In 2018 IPL auctions, he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for one crore.
