Virat Kohli will recommence his battle with Kane Williamson when India face New Zealand in the first semi-final of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The two leaders – captains of their respective teams – and two of the greatest batsmen of this generation met 11 years ago in the U19 World Cup final 2008 when Kohli got the better of his opposite number with an all-around performance. A video clip of that game has now gone viral on social media with Indian cricketing fans hoping for a repeat of the same on July 9 (Tuesday) at Manchester. IND vs NZ, ICC CWC 2019 Semi-Finals: Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson’s Mutual Admiration, A Great Lesson for Youngsters.
India led by an 18-year-old Kohli faced the Black Caps at the same stage in 2008 with Williamson winning the toss and electing to bat first. New Zealand looked set to post a big total on board despite losing two early wickets. It was after Kohli had tried several bowling options and failed that he decided to bring himself into the attack. The result was the prize wicket of Williamson. Kohli finished the game with figures of 2/27 from seven overs and then scored 43 runs in a low-scoring match to guide India to a victory and reach the final.

Williamson’s wicket came in the 27th over. Kohli first set-up the Kiwi skipper with two deliveries on the off-stumps before surprising him with a ball down the leg. Williamson stepped out to smash over mid-on only to see wicket-keeper Shreevats Goswami dislodge the bails. Kohli also removed Fraser Colson in the first ball of his next over to leave New Zealand reeling at 90/4 after 28.1 overs.
India went on to win the game by three wickets and then beat South Africa by 12 runs in the final to claim their second U-19 World Cup title. Four months after guiding India to the trophy, Kohli made his debut for the senior Indian cricket team.
