The world of cricket was rocked by the news of Tamim Iqbal suffering a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match on Monday, March 24. The former Bangladesh captain was rushed to the hospital for treatment and several top officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as well as Tamim Iqbal's colleagues Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad visited him at the hospital. Later, it was reported that he regained consciousness and also spoke to a family member from the CCU. Wishes poured in from all corners of the cricket world with fans and members of the sports fraternity praying for Tamim Iqbal's speedy recovery.

Former Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar has issued an update on Tamim Iqbal's health. "We were about to lose him in the morning. Fortunately, he is safe now, thanks to the doctors who treated him with utmost care,” he said as quoted by Mid Day.

Tamim Iqbal, who suffered a heart attack in a Dhaka Premier League match, regained consciousness following a successful angioplasty and a stent procedure, said Debashis Chowdhury, a medical officer of the BCB. “His vital signs are improving so we also hope that his overall health will also get better in the next 24 hours. The hospital has briefed you that they have put a ring in one of his arteries. The other arteries are healthy,” he added.

The left-hander, as reported by ESPN Cricinfo, had left for the Fazilatunnesa Hospital, to visit the doctors after suffering from chest pain. The cricketer then returned to the ground to be airlifted to another hospital in Dhaka but he felt discomfort in his chest once again and had to be taken back to the Fazilatunnesa Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
The doctors at the hospital later performed an angioplasty to remove the blockage and a stent will be placed in his heart. Several officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) rushed to the hospital after cancelling a meeting in the afternoon after this happened.
