For days now, there has been speculation about the alleged rift between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma especially after the two are reported to be missing on the ODI and Test series respectively against South Africa. Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin also smelt a rat and questioned the timing of the two stalwarts for taking breaks. He posted a tweet on social media while doing so. Now, this surely hasn't gone down well with the little Sunil Gavaskar who asked Azhar to give internal deets about the rift. Mohammad Azharuddin Raises Eyebrows on Virat Kohli's ODI and Rohit Sharma’s Test Break During India Tour of South Africa 2021-22, Says ‘Substantiates Speculation About Rift’.
While talking to India Today, Gavaskar said he would give the benefit of the doubt to both players unless the two players (Kohli and Sharma) come out in open talking about the rift. Furthermore, he explained that it would be wrong to point fingers at the two. "Unless both the players come out with something, we should not jump to conclusions. Yes, Azharuddin has said something but if he has got some inside information about what has happened then he should be coming out and telling us what happened," explained Gavaskar.
Virat Kohli is supposed to address the press later today at 1.00 pm IST where he will be expected to answer questions about the ODI captaincy change, his participation in the limited-overs series against South Africa and even his rapport with Rohit. The ODI skipper is suffering from a hamstring injury and is out of action for three weeks.
