Sunil Gavaskar Criticises Australian Style of Cricket, Says 'Players Tend to Break the Line Between Cheating and Gamesmanship!'
Sunil Gavaskar has hit out at the Australian style of cricket saying that their players often tend to cross the thin line between cheating and gamesmanship to win the game at all costs.
Sunil Gavaskar has hit out at the Australian style of cricket saying their players often tend to break the thin line between cheating and gamesmanship to win the game at all costs. Gavaskar made these comments a few days after former Australian captain Michael Clarke said that ‘Australia will not win a game’ if they didn’t play with their abrasive attitude.
Speaking to India Today, Gavaskar said, “Their attitude over the years has been most different from other teams where they look to win at all cost. There is a fine line between breaking the rule and bending the rule. And their (culture) review told the world that their administrators did nothing about it.” Prithvi Shaw Ruled Out of India vs Australia 1st Test Match at Adelaide; BCCI Statement Reveals Lateral Ligament Injury!
The former Indian cricketer further added that they say that they will not cross the line but the reality is unknown. Gavaskar said, “They tend to break the fine line between cheating and gamesmanship. They tell us we will not cross the line but what their line is no one knows. It’s like our line of control.”
Drawing comparisons between the current West Indies and Australia team, Gavaskar said that there is a world of difference between the two. Gavaskar said, “Australians coming in and engaging in abuse, I have never understood that. That’s why now when they are losing, everyone is laughing. While even the Windies team is struggling, everyone wants them to come up. That’s the difference. That’s why people liked the West Indies team that won so much. Even Australia had a team that dominated for more than a decade but no one liked them for the way they played.” Prithvi Shaw Injures Left Ankle While Taking Catch During India vs Cricket Australia XI Practice Match: Watch Video Highlights.
Earlier, Sunil Gavaskar had come out in support of Mithali Raj too, after her fallout with the then head coach of Indian women’s team, Ramesh Powar. Gavaskar had said that he did not agree with the reason given to drop Mithali in the crucial knockout game at ICC Women’s World T20 2018, where India lost to England in the semi-final.
Talking about India vs Australia, the teams will be embroiled in an exciting contest starting from December 6, in Adelaide. Stay tuned with LatestLY for all the latest updates about India vs Australia 2018 Series.
