Steve Smith wished India on the special occasion of Diwali on October 27, 2019 (Sunday). The star Australian batsman, who represents Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and is a popular player in India, took to social media to wish his Indian fans and friends on this Indian festive season. The 30-year-old cricketer was widely praised on social media for taking his time out to wish his Indian fans despite a busy cricketing schedule. Smith is also set to make his first appearance in an international match in Australia since serving a year ban for the ball-tampering scandal. This will also be the first time in over three years that Smith will be playing a Twenty20 International match for Australia. “I’m excited,” Smith was quoted as saying by the ICC website ahead of Australia’s first T20I against Sri Lanka at Adelaide on October 27, 2019 (Sunday). “It should be good, I can’t wait to play. It’s a great honour to be back playing here in Australia,” added the top-ranked Test batsman in world cricket. He has been in phenomenal form in the longest format of the game but has struggled in T20I cricket where he averages 21.55 in 30 Twenty20 matches.

Smith wasn’t, however, the only foreign cricketer to wish India on the auspicious occasion of Diwali. Earlier, West Indies superstar Chris Gayle wished India on the special occasion of Deepawali. Gayle, who has achieved cult status among Indian fans and is one of the most loved international cricketers in India took to Twitter to wish his beloved Indian fans.
