Steve Smith to Play for Barbados Tridents Team in CPL T20 2018, Replaces Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan
The CPL T20 2018 is scheduled to begin from August 08. Barbados Tridents will open their campaign against Guyana Amazon Warriors on August 11. The final of CPL T20 2018 will be played on September 16.
Suspended Australian cricketer Steve Smith will play for Barbados Tridents Team in the upcoming Caribbean Premier League 2018 (CPL T20 2018). Smith will replace Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who is no longer available for selection following his national duty. The former Australia captain is currently serving a one-year ban after he was found involved in the ball-tampering saga during a Test against South Africa in March. This will be Smith’s second overseas assignment after he returned to cricket in the recently concluded Global T20 Canada. Following his ban, he was barred from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as well along with David Warner.
Smith represented Toronto Nationals in the Global Canada T20 league and featured in six matches for the franchise. He scored 167 runs, averaging 33.40 at a strike rate of 119.28. Warner, who also took part in the Global Canada T20 league, will feature in the upcoming edition of the CPL as well for St Lucia Stars. Meanwhile, Barbados Tridents coach Robin Singh was happy to see a world-class player replacing another world-class player. “It is a huge blow to lose Shakib for the tournament but in Steve Smith, we have a truly world-class replacement who can help to bring power to our batting line-up,” said Singh.
“As a man who has played cricket at the highest level all over the world we are very confident that Smith will be a big success with the Tridents,” he added.
