The first Test of Ashes 2019 was full of jibes, hoots and the hostile crowd who left no opportunity to take on the Australian players at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground. Amid the hostile reception, Steve Smith remained calm and displayed nerves of steel as he scored a century in both the innings of the game and silenced his critics. The feat was praised by the netizens as they were quite happy with his batting display. England enjoyed the lead of 90 runs after they made 374 runs. In the second innings, Australia had a bad start with David Warner and Camron Bancroft getting out early on eight and seven respectively. Needless to say that the onus of the team was now on the shoulders of Usman Khwaja and Steve Smith. Khawaja made 40 runs and made way to the pavilion but Smith held on and surged his way ahead. With this, Steve Smith becomes the first player since Matthew Hayden in 2002 to post twin tons in an #Ashes Test. He also became the first player to achieve this feat on the English soil. At the time of going online, the Aussies had lost five wickets and had put up 379 runs. After Steve Smith, Travis Head put up 51 runs on the board and further strengthen the position of the visitors. It was Matthew Wade and Tim Paine batting on the score of 92 and 21 runs respectively.
