The England wicket-keeper made the Australian batsman think that he is going to get run-out during the match. Smith was completing his run towards the striker’s end when the incident happened. He bluffed to collect the ball even though the ball wasn’t coming towards him at that time. Smith, in fear of getting run-out, took a dive to complete the run. Taking about the matter during the press conference post the Day 2 of Ashes 2019 5th Test match, Steve Smith came up with a funny response. When a reporter asked Smith what he Bairstow said while he dived back into the crease, Smith replied, "He got me there, didn't he. Dirtied by clothes". "He didn't say anything, I don't think, but he got me. I didn't know where the ball was. Bloody thing. Faked it. He got me. I don't know what else to say", the 30-year-old batsman further said.
