Just after Australia won the toss and elected to bat, the team suffered their early setbacks as they lost early wickets. Aaron Finch, David Warner and CWC debutant Peter Handscomb went made way to the pavilion in the first seven overs of the match. However, despite this, Steve Smith stood tall and made 85 runs for the side and thus shouldered the responsibility of taking the team to a respectable total. But alas the former Australian captain could not score a century and got run-out on the score of 85 runs.  Australia vs England Cricket Score 2nd Semi Final ODI Match.

Smith had the longest partnership with wicket-keeper batsman Alex Carey who made 46 runs for the side. Apart from Carey no other batsman stayed for a long time and despite the crumbling batting order, Smith gave a tough fight to the bowlers. His 85 run knock came from 119 balls after he slammed six fours and no maximums. Just when we thought that he would get a century, his dream was ended with that brilliant run-out by Jos Buttler.

Check out the video of the dismissal below:

Smith attempted to pull the ball early and the change in pace did the magic. The ball deflected off the stumps and Jos Butler threw it at the non-striker’s end. Smith fell short of a few inches and he was sent back to the pavilion. The team has now got bundled out on 223 with an over still to go for the match.
