Mumbai, April 05: Star India, on Thursday, bagged both, television and digital rights from Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the period of five years, after an intense e-auction bid that was on for three days. Star India won the BCCI media rights, which will now see them become the official broadcaster for both, Indian Cricket team and also domestic competitions from 2018 to 2023.

Star India seems to be on a rampage as far as the media rights of Indian Cricket is considered. After being the official broadcaster for the Indian Premier League (IPL), ICC tournaments, the media-house has now acquired the rights of all Indian Senior and Domestic Cricket matches to be played at home in the next five years.

The first-of-its-kind e-auction held by the BCCI, saw companies like Google, Facebook, Sony, Jio, and Star bid for the media rights of India Cricket. In the end, it was Star that emerged as the victorious with their bid of Rs. 6,138 crores.

The Indian Cricket team will be playing 102 matches from June 2018 to March 2023, which will make the equation of approximately Rs. 60 crore per game. Acting BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry tweeted, “Congratulations Star Sports India on bagging the BCCI Media Rights at 6138.1 crores at an average of 60.1 crores per game.”

In its previous bid, Star India had acquired the BCCI media rights for Indian cricket for an amount of Rs. 3,851 crores. Then, the company had bid for the Indian matches to be played during 2012 to 2018.

Earlier, Star India had acquired the media rights of IPL for the same period. Star had then paid a whopping amount of Rs. 16,347.5 crores. Talking about IPL, Star India finalised its deal to share broadcast rights with Doordarshan, for the upcoming season.
