After their first loss to the Chennai Super Kings, the Mumbai Indians were hoping to win their first match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. But alas! The batting lineup of Mumbai Indians got exposed right at the start of the game as Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan and Evin Lewis made way to the pavilion in the first 5 overs of the game leaving the team at the score of 54/3. You can watch the highlights of the match here!
Though Surya Kumar Yadav and Krunal Pandya held the nerves for Mumbai; soon Shakib Al Hasan got the latter. Surya Kumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard put up a partnership of 38 runs which but the Caribbean all-rounder made way to the pavilion. Surya’s partnership continued with Ben Cutting for 23 runs but soon Rashid Khan got the wicket of the Australian all-rounder. The fall of Surya was the final nail in the coffin as the tail-enders Pradeep Sangwan, Jasprit Bumrah and Mayank Markande chipped in with 14 runs to make the total of 147 on the board.
When Sunrisers Hyderabad came to bat, never did anyone think that the comparatively low-scoring game would turn into a nail-biting contest. Mumbai Indians initially missed many chances to get rid of SRH’s opening pair Shikhar Dhawan and Wriddhiman Saha. All thanks to their sloppy fielding. But, finally after their partnership of 62 runs, Mayank Markande, got rid of the wicket-keeper and then the big man Shikhar Dhawan who was blazing guns for the SRH. Kane Williamson, Manish Pandey and Shakib Al Hasan left for the pavilion soon after making way for Deepak Hooda. Wickets kept falling at the other end as Hooda fought for runs.
Siddharth Kaul, Rashid Khan and Sandeep Sharma departed quickly leaving the team on the score of 137/9. By then the contest was no less than an edge of the seat thriller and the result swung like a pendulum and at many occasions tilted towards the Mumbai Indians. But Billy Stanlake and Deepak Hooda held their nerves until the last ball and helped the Sunrisers Hyderabad win the game. As mentioned earlier, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have topped the point table leaving Chennai Super Kings on number 2.
