South Africa Knocked Out of Cricket World Cup 2019: Defeat to Pakistan Means Proteas Out of Semi Final Contention

South Africa cricket team have been delivered the final blow and are out of the contention to make it to the semi-finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC) 2019 after their loss to Pakistan in match 30 of the world cup. This was South Africa's fourth loss in six games and their only victory came against Afghanistan. The match against West Indies was abandoned due to rain.

With the loss against Pakistan in Sunday's match at Lord's, South Africa are all but out of the contention for the semi-final spot in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. This was South Africa's seventh game in the CWC 2019 and their fifth loss in the world cup. South Africa are now only above Afghanistan in the points table and are placed at the second-last position. Pakistan beat South Africa by 49 runs at Lord's. With this loss, South Africa are now out of the World Cup. Pakistan skipper Srafaraz Ahmed won the toss and elected to bat first against South Africa. Pakistan got off to a good start as Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq found themselves among runs. Babar Azam scored fifty and Haris Sohail played a very good knock of 89 off just 59 deliveries to help Pakistan to 308/7 in 50 overs. Coming out to bat, South Africa never quite got going except the 87-runs partnership between South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock. For Pakistan, Mohammad Amir (2 wickets) and Shadab Khan (3 wickets) proved to the pick of the bowlers as they dented the Proteas batting line-up and picked five wickets among themselves. Only Faf du Plessis (67) managed a fifty as none of the other South African batsmen managed to withstand the Pakistani bowlers. Wahab Riaz delivered late blows and picked three wickets towards the end to finish South Africa innings and chances.
