Pakistan skipper Srafaraz Ahmed won the toss and elected to bat first against South Africa. Pakistan got off to a good start as Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq found themselves among runs. Babar Azam scored fifty and Haris Sohail played a very good knock of 89 off just 59 deliveries to help Pakistan to 308/7 in 50 overs. Coming out to bat, South Africa never quite got going except the 87-runs partnership between South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock. For Pakistan, Mohammad Amir (2 wickets) and Shadab Khan (3 wickets) proved to the pick of the bowlers as they dented the Proteas batting line-up and picked five wickets among themselves. Only Faf du Plessis (67) managed a fifty as none of the other South African batsmen managed to withstand the Pakistani bowlers. Wahab Riaz delivered late blows and picked three wickets towards the end to finish South Africa innings and chances.
