After winning the first match of the four-game Test series against Australia in Adelaide, the Virat Kohli and men suffered a defeat by 146 runs in Perth. In the second innings of the second Test match, India was chasing 287 runs but not of the batsmen could go beyond the 30-run mark. By the end of the fifth day, the series was levelled by the Aussies. After the conclusion of the second Test match, Sourav Ganguly went on to speak about the unsent text match that he was about to send to Virat Kohli. Nathan Lyon Turns an Umpire; Helps Ishant Sharma Take Guard in Perth during India vs Australia, Second Test Match (Watch Video).

While speaking to India TV, Ganguly said, “I had thought of sending a text to Kohli but I haven’t done it yet. I wanted to tell him that you shouldn’t give so many wickets to spinners outside the subcontinent. There is no doubt that Nathan Lyon is a great spinner but so were Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan and Graeme Swann.” The former Indian captain also said that the players had shown him too much of respect by defending the outside off deliveries. Nathan Lyon claimed eight wickets and went on to become the Man of the Match. After the match, Lyon said, “It's amazing to play a role in a victory, haven't had one in a while. Thanks to everyone. Can't wait to sing the song. It's fair to say we've been in a drought, so good to break. Was special to wrap the tail up quickly. My role probably changed a bit, attacking in Adelaide to a defending on here.”
