Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed won the toss and elected to bat first against South Africa. Pakistan got off to a good start as Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq found themselves among runs. Babar Azam scored fifty and Haris Sohail played a very good knock of 89 off just 59 deliveries to help Pakistan to 308/7 in 50 overs. In reply, South Africa could manage 259/9 in 50 overs and lost the match by 49 runs. For Pakistan, Mohammad Amir (2 wickets) and Shadab Khan (3 wickets) proved to the pick of the bowlers as they dented the Proteas batting line-up and picked five wickets among themselves to break the back of South Africa's innings.
