After being included in the Indian squad for New Zealand tour chances are Shubman Gill could make is debut during the One-Day International (ODI) series. The 19-year-old batsman was seen sweating it out in the nets ahead of the first ODI between India and New Zealand at McLean Park in Napier. It appears as if Gill will be included in the playing XI for the first ODI. However, it remains to be seen who will be dropped.
Gill was not part of the squad initially and was later added following the suspension of Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul. The duo made some misogynist comments on the famous celebrity talk show and were eventually suspended from national duty. With Pandya and Rahul’s suspension, Gill’s chances for making it to the World Cup squad has suddenly increased. However, before that, the youngster will have to do well in New Zealand provided he gets an opportunity to make his debut.

The youngster, who plays for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), will be itching to have a go for his national side. The right-handed batsman has been in good form having scored 91, 69*, 148 and 268 in his last five first-class outings. He averages impressive 77.28 in nine matches and it was one of the reasons that he was called up to play for the Indian cricket team. Meanwhile, India and New Zealand will be looking to take an early lead in the five-match series, which begins on January 23. After the ODIs, the two teams will battle it out in the three T20 Internationals as well.
