Right-handed opening batsman Shubman Gill smashed his career’s fifth first-class century. The Punjab batsman looked in good touch in Ranji Trophy 2019-20 match against Vidarbha in Nagpur. Gill scored 100 off 175 balls before he was stumped off Aditya Sarwate. In earlier three outings in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Gill returned with scores of 12, 36 not out against Rajasthan and 0 against Hyderabad. Gill compiled his century against the likes of Umesh Yadav, who is the leader of Vidarbha’s bowling attack. During his stay at the crease, the 20-year-old Punjab batsman slammed 12 fours and a six. Gill added 187 runs for the opening wicket with Sanvir Singh (82). After losing Gill, Punjab were further dented with Singh departing a couple of overs later.
Gurkeerat Singh and captain Mandeep Singh then joined forces and took Punjab to safety at lunch on day four. The duo added unbeaten 58 off 60 balls with Punjab’s score reading 249 for two. Earlier, Vidarbha were bowled out for 338 in their first innings. Middle-order batsman Ganesh Satish was the top-scorer for his side, scoring 145 off 301 balls. Apart from him, Aditya Sarwate scored valuable 48 while batting at number eight. For Punjab, Baltej Singh and Arshdeep Singh picked three wickets each.
