With no number three replacement, the Indian cricket team might include Sarfaraz Khan or Dhruv Jurel in the middle-order, moving KL Rahul up the order. India could also field Axar Patel as their third all-rounder option with Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja a sure-shot in the playing XI.
Earlier, Gill faced similar injury concerns during India's white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, missing the second T20I due to a neck spasm, only to return for the final match. The second and third Test between Indian national cricket team and New Zealand national cricket team will be played in Pune and Mumbai, respectively.
