Shivnarine Chandrapual's Shot Runs Out Son While Batting in a Match for Guyana, Team Loses Match
The former West Indian batting great Shivnarine Chandrapaul, achieved the rare distinction of batting with his son Tagenarine and also getting him run out.
Cricket is an unusual sport. And it can be both beautiful and cruel at the same time. Among the rarest of the rare cases in professional sports, must be the occasion when a father and his son played the sports together. And in Cricket, a father becoming the cause of son’s dismissal was unheard of, until now.
The former West Indian batting great Shivnarine Chandrapaul, achieved the rare distinction of batting with his son Tagenarine when they both were at the crease for Guyana in a match against Windword Islands in the Regional Super50 semi-final match. The NAGICO Regional Super50 is the domestic one-day cricket competition in the West Indies.
But what was even strange was the fact that Shivnarine Chandrapaul also got his son run out when a straight drive from the left-handed batsmen hit the stumps after contact with the bowler. Shivnarine’s son Tagenarine was found short of the crease and given out. Here is a picture of that rare sight
Guyana were chasing a target of 287 and the run out happened at a crucial moment when Guyana was 20/1. Tagenarine was batting at run-a- ball 12 when he was dismissed. Shivnarine scored 34 off 38 balls but Guyana were bundled out for 231 in 44.2 overs and lost the match by 52 runs via DLS method and were eliminated from the tournament. Windward Islands will play Barbados in the final at Coolidge on Sunday.
