Injured opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan was on Wednesday, June 12, spotted during India’s practice session at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham. India take on New Zealand at the venue on June 13, Thursday in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 (CWC19) match. It has been raining in Nottingham and players missed their practice session earlier. Meanwhile, Dhawan has been ruled out for three weeks as of now and Vijay Shankar is likely to replace him in the playing XI against New Zealand. Dhawan was seen talking to bowling coach Bharat Arun with his hands in the pocket as other players were training. Earlier, India’s batting coach gave an update on Dhawan’s injury and felt that it will take opener 10-12 days to recover.
“We're monitoring Shikhar Dhawan. He may take 10-12 days to recover, we'll assist him. Vijay Shankar is one of the options, if & when required. It's good to have back up. Rishabh Pant will be in Manchester,” Team India’s batting coach Sanjay Bangar quoted as saying by ANI. Both India and New Zealand are currently unbeaten in the World Cup. New Zealand have won three out three matches and are currently on top of the Cricket World Cup 2019 points table. The Kiwis have defeated Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh thus far. India, on the other hand, are placed on third spot on the CWC19 points table. And have defeated South Africa and Australia thus far.
