In a major blow to Indian cricket team, Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 (CWC 2019). The left-hander was hit on the thumb during a match against Australia and was ruled out for subsequent three weeks. Earlier today, the opener was eventually ruled out of the tournament. Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant who was sent as a cover for Dhawan will now replace him in the squad. Meanwhile, Dhawan in an emotional video message thanked his fans and announced that he no longer will take part in the CWC 2019. In the video, Dhawan said, “ Just wanted to make a video to show gratitude towards your prayers and love which you all have been showering at me. Really appreciate it. Unfortunately, my thumb won’t be recovering on time. In Dhawan’s absence, KL Rahul was promoted as an opener and he did a fine job against Pakistan. The right-handed batsman will continue to open the innings with Rohit Sharma. It will be interesting to see whether Pant gets a game or not.
