Shikhar Dhawan is having a time of his life with the bat and has been doing well quite often these days. He was named the highest run scorer during the Asia Cup 2018 and then did quite well in the home series against the Windies. His blistering form continued even during the first T20I between India and Australia in Gabba, Bristol. He took on the Aussie pace battery with an ease and scored 76 runs from 42 balls. Dhawan went on to hit 10 fours and a couple of maximums. KL Rahul Slammed by Netizens for His Poor Performance During Ind vs Aus 1st T20I.

With this knock, he overtook Indian skipper Virat Kohli long-standing record of scoring the highest runs in T20 in the calendar year. Virat Kohli in 2016 had slammed 641 runs and Dhawan needed 69 runs to overhaul the long-standing record. With this knock of 76 in the first T20I, he surpassed Virat Kohli. Despite Shikhar Dhawan’s heroics, India lost the match by four wickets. Dinesh Karthik as the second highest run scorer for the India team contributing 30 runs from 13 balls. Until the time Karthik was on the field batting it looked like India could win the game as right-hander slammed four boundaries and one six. After the match, Virat Kohli praised Dhawan for his batting and said, “A really good knock from him (Dhawan). Dinesh Karthik at the end played really well as well. We don't have much time to think of things, [that's the] good thing as well as a bad thing when you haven't won the game. You just move on to the next game [at MCG.]"
