Shaheed Diwas 2018: Watch Harbhajan Singh’s Tribute to Bhagat Singh

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Harbhajan Singh in a video message has a paid rich tribute to well-known freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. The video message titled EK Suneha 2 was released in Jalandhar earlier this week to commemorate the 87th anniversary of Bhagat Singh's martyrdom, which falls on March 23. Martyr’s Day or Shaheed Diwas is observed every year on March 23 in the memory of three freedom fighters- Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev, who were hanged on March 23, 1931, in Lahore jail.

In the five-minute long video, Harbhajan urges the youth to follow the values of Bhagat Singh. Not only this, Harbhajan wants youth to not just confine the martyr’s glory to slogans and songs. “The legends like Bhagat Singh have not just given us freedom, they have given each one of us a sense of pride. At 23, he had vision and courage to sacrifice his life for our freedom. We are enjoying that freedom, but not valuing it,” said Harbhajan during the launch of the video message.

“We can’t repay the debt of the legend (Shahid Bhagat Singh). But at least we must respect what he has given to us. Are we really serious when we narrate songs like why Bhagat Singh’s image is not there on our currency notes? Are we really paying the legend a tribute from the core of our hearts when we shout customary slogans on dated occasions? I strongly believe, we are not,” he added.

Former and current cricketers like Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman and Gautam Gambhir praised and supported Harbhajan’s tribute to Bhagat Singh.

The video is produced by Bhatinda-based Goyal Music and is penned by Sanjay Glory, who hails from Phillaur in Punjab. This happens to be Harbhajan’s second association with them. Their earlier presentation was titled ‘Ek Suneha’.
