Shafali Verma, the 15-year-old Indian cricketer who made her international debut in India vs South Africa 1st T20I in Surat on Tuesday, was dismissed for a duck in the match. The 15-year-old made herself proud after getting India call-up at such a young age. However, she could not bag limelight in his debut match. She lost her wicket to Shabnim Ismail on the 4th ball of the first over. As an opener, she played the first three balls scoring no runs. Later she was caught by Tumi Sekhukhune on the 4th ball.
The Proteas won the toss and elected to bat first in the match at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat. Earlier, the Indian batswoman Verma was greeted by fellow team players at the start of the match. Indian women team players congratulated her for playing her debut international match. Verma had earlier impressed with her performance in Women’s T20 Challenger earlier this year while playing for Team Velocity. She had smashed a quick-fire of 34 runs off 31 balls against Trailblazers and earned praise from all. Meanwhile, India women take on South Africa women in a home series.
India and South Africa’s women team are battling against each other in a T20I and ODI series. The T20I series consists of five matches while three ODIs will be played in the ODI series. The ODI series will follow the T20I series. The first warm-up game was abandoned due to wet outfield. The 2nd warm-up match saw South Africa winning the match by 83 runs.
