South Africa vs Zimbabwe Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - ODI Commentary
What do you reckon? 2-0? 1-1? Or 1-0 (in case of a tie)? Given the way Zimbabwe batted in the first ODI, one would say that the visitors do not stand much of a chance if the South African bowlers hit consistent lines and lengths. But, if the new-ball period is weathered out, then you never know - we might be in for a decent run chase. Join us back in a while.
Dale Steyn gives a quick interview near the boundary line. He says that it's nice to get the team out of a precarious situation but feels 220 would have been a better total. Mentions that the plan was to take it 5 overs at a time and then go forward. On the target, he says that they are there and there about and need to bowl well. Further goes on to say that when the balls got older, it became easier to bat. Reckons it's a tough wicket to bat. On making a comeback, Steyn smiles and replies that he has played enough cricket and there were no nerves. Credits Zimbabwe for bowling in good areas and hopes that his team will do the same.
Ohh... Zimbabwe, you have stolen our hearts again with your bowling. The opening seamers set it up, with Jarvis and Chatara running through the South African batting. Then, the others chipped in, taking wickets at regular intervals. But they could not quite finish the good work and have allowed South Africa, at least another 70 runs.
Once again, the top order flopped. This time, the middle order caved in too and they were in a danger of doing what Zimbabwe did in game 1. Three batsmen got to starts, only to waste it. In the end, a man playing after nearly 2 years has saved some face for his side. THIS IS SOUTH AFRICA'S LOWEST ODI TOTAL against Zimbabwe while batting first in a completed innings.
A modest total but much better from 101/7. South Africa were looking down and out but the 75-run stand between Steyn and Phehlukwayo has given the hosts more than something to bowl at. However, bigger problems lie ahead.
Donald Tiripano to Dale Steyn. OUT! BOWLED! South Africa do not play out their 50 overs, nor do they reach 200. A low full toss, Steyn looks to heave but this is a clever change in pace from Tiripano. The batsman is months early into his shot and misses. Timber. ZIMBABWE NEED 199 TO WIN.
Donald Tiripano to Dale Steyn. Another top edge, safe again! Tiripano continues to check Steyn with his footwork and the South African fast bowler is not shy of playing his shots. He swings hard again, gets another top edge but this one does not carry to third man. They do not run.
Donald Tiripano to Dale Steyn. IN THE AIR... SAFE! Then a misfield ANDDDDD FOUR! Poor from Mavuta. A short ball, around off, Steyn pulls it in the air towards mid-wicket but then gets a top edge. Brandon Mavuta comes running in from the deep but is not able to get to the ball to take the catch. However, he is not able to stop the ball either as it goes past him and meets the ropes behind! The crowd loves that.

It straightens after landing as Tahir gets forward to play at it. But his bat gets a bit stuck behind is front pad and he is late into the shot. End of a 75-run stand, a brilliant and probably a match-winning 75-run stand. Chatara gets his third. He bowls it on the pads, Andile tries to flick but does so, very fine down the leg side. Taylor behind dives to his right and takes a good catch. He appeals and the umpire raises his finger. Replays later on show, there was some sound as the ball passes the bat. So maybe, Phehlukwayo was disappointed with the way he got out and not the decision. Nevertheless, he departs after playing a handy knock, he would have loved to carry on. Brandon Mavuta to Khaya Zondo. The batsman plays the square Cut.
Drinks! Zimbabwe are right on top here at the moment. After being asked to bowl first, their pacers have delivered. However, they need to continue the good work and can not relax at the moment. South Africa on the other hand, will need two batsmen to somehow stitch a partnership. They still have Duminy left but not a lot of batting after that. The two batting out there and their skipper surely hold the key for them. The wicket is a tricky one and anything above 175 looks like a good total with the bowling they have.

Donald Tiripano to Aiden Markram. OUT! Markram departs! The batsman who was looking good out there is walking back. The run out opportunity has not cost Zimbabwe a lot. Not the best of deliveries by Tiripano but he won't mind. It is short and outside off, Markram, who has been creaming such deliveries to the boundary with shots of the back foot, goes for another one. This time though the ball takes a healthy edge and flies towards the keeper who takes it with ease. Markram walks back dejected after getting yet another start.

Markram responds but first he hesitates and then goes for it. It almost costs him but luckily for him the fielder misses. Zimbabwe would have loved a direct hit there. A big chance goes abegging, that too of the batsman who has looked the most comfortable today.

Tendai Chatara to Heinrich Klaasen. OUT! There goes number 3! The tight bowling has paid dividends here for the visitors. The pressure of not scoring maybe got to Klaasen. He tries to break the shackles by pulling this one. The ball however, stays a touch low. Does not hit the middle and goes flat towards Mire. He is stationed at mid-wicket and he takes a fine low catch, diving to his right. He throws the ball up in the air and the Zimbabwean players are ecstatic. They are right on top.

The number 4 batsman arrives in the third over. It's Heinrich Klaasen.
Kyle Jarvis to Reeza Hendricks. OUT! TIMBER! Flat pitch? Well, you would not say that after watching this delivery. Almost a grubber. Nothing Hendricks could have done about that. It lands around off, comes back in and stays very, very low. So low, that the ball sneaks under Hendricks' bat as he tries to defend and uproots the off pole. Two wickets within 3 overs for Zimbabwe and South Africa have been rocked early again.
Tendai Chatara to Aiden Markram. Shortish around off, Markram stands tall and keeps it out. End of a long but successful over for Zimbabwe.

Reeza Hendricks walks out at no. 3.
Tendai Chatara to Dean Elgar. OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! Zimbabwe draw first blood! Elgar walks back cheaply once again. Ideal start for the visitors after being asked to field. Chatara's first decent delivery in the three balls he has bowled and he strikes. It is bowled on a length around off, slanting away after landing. Elgar maybe could have left it but does not. Strange, as he is a very good leaver of the ball in the longer format. He tries to push at it but gets a faint outside edge towards the keeper. Taylor takes it and appeals and the umpire raises his finger.
Tendai Chatara to Aiden Markram. Once again the ball stays low but it is on the pads. Markram tries to flick but gets a bottom edge down to fine leg to get off the mark.

Kyle Jarvis to Dean Elgar. Goes wide outside off this time, bowls it inside the wide line though. Elgar makes another leave.
Kyle Jarvis to Dean Elgar. WIDE! Errs in line and bowls it down the leg side. Elgar leaves it and it has been wided.
Kyle Jarvis to Dean Elgar. FOUR! Well, no problem on that delivery! On the pads, Elgar flicks it through mid-wicket. It has been timed beautifully. The fielder from mid on gives it a chase but due to the lightning outfield here, he finishes second. South Africa and Elgar are off the mark in style.
Kyle Jarvis to Dean Elgar. Good delivery to begin with! It is bowled right on a length around off, maybe it lands on a crack. Pitches and moves away, also stays a touch low. Elgar tries to defend but gets beaten. So the ball staying low, also some movement, this was supposed to be a flat pitch, right?
Done and dusted with the national anthems and now we are all set for the action to begin. Aiden Markram and Dean Elgar are the openers. The latter will be on strike and he will be facing Kyle Jarvis, who will bowl with the first new ball. Two slips in place. Here we go...
The players have walked out for their respective national anthems. Zimbabwe's will be sung first, followed by the hosts'.
Zimbabwe's skipper, Hamilton Masakadza says they too wanted to bat first as the wicket looks really good. He is excited to play his 200th ODI. Informs there is only one change, Donald Tiripano comes in for Wellington Masakadza. He reckons it should be a high-scoring game and hopes to restrict the opposition under 260. They have spoken about the last game but today is a different wicket and a different game and they would like to do well.
South Africa's skipper, JP Duminy says they want to try batting first. Informs Dale Steyn comes in for Kagiso Rabada and Khaya Zondo comes in for Mulder who is injured. Further adds he will take the responsibility of the 5th bowler and he enjoys bowling in this format. Ends by saying there were a few areas they had to improve in from the last game, especially the batting department.
TOSS - Up goes the coin and it lands in the favor of South Africa. They elect to bat.
Zimbabwe's pacer Tendai Chatara gives a quick interview now. Says that he has been working on his skills and wants to set the tone for the series. Talks about the pitch in Kimberley and says that he loved bowling on that surface as it was offering good pace and he was just looking to hit the right lengths. Feels that the pitch today looks flat and his skills will come into play. Also talks about the shorter boundaries in Bloemfontein. Admits that it's hard to defend low scores and hopes that his batsmen step up and put big runs on the board as this pitch looks flat and good for batting.
Heinrich Klassen, who is up for an interview, says he played well on a difficult wicket but is disappointed he got out towards the end. Admits it was difficult keeping in the wind and it was also difficult for the slip catchers. Reckons the wicket here is good for batting and he would look to be amongst the runs. He hopes they can post a big total and put the opposition under pressure. Ends by saying they had a good practice session and are up for this game.
Hello and welcome to the coverage of the 2nd ODI between Zimbabwe and South Africa. A must-win game for the visitors to keep the series alive. They were battered in the last game and it will be interesting to see if they have learnt from their mistakes. South Africa, on the other hand, will look to seal the series here itself. They were clinical in the first game and Duminy will hope for a repeat of their performance. They enter as favorites once again but a surprise in cricket can never be ruled out. Let us hope we witness an equal contest between bat and ball.
So, that is it from this game. South Africa have sealed the series with a game left, the third ODI which will be played on 6th of October at 0100 AM local (1100 AM GMT). Till then goodbye and take care!
South Africa skipper, JP Duminy, says the pitch was not an ideal one. Further adds the pitches here are normally flat. Mentions it was a good effort by the lower order to take them to 200. States they needed wickets up front and they got them. Reckons the players have not yet stepped up to the opportunity, yes it has been tough but they still have another opportunity in the third game to cement their place in the World Cup squad. Credits Tahir for the way he bowled. Ends by saying they are looking forward to the third game and he hopes the guys who are getting the opportunity grab it with both hands.
Man of the Match, Dale Steyn, says the wicket was quite tough but playing the spinners was easier. Further adds he built a partnership with Phehlukwayo and they did well. He feels good entering this game after playing quite a few county games. Reckons the wicket was a little up and down and he would not mind bowling on it everyday. Credits the way Zimbabwe bowled. Ends by saying it was a very difficult track to bat on.
Zimbabwe skipper, Hamilton Masakadza, is disappointed how they let the game go after restricting South Africa to 100 for 7 at one stage. Reckons the bowlers bowled really well first up. Feels that their batsmen need more application. Reckons that the seamers were the ones who were threatening and he is disappointed to lose so many wickets to the spin of Imran Tahir. Admits they needed partnership which they did not get.
Earlier in the day, even South Africa found themselves in a spot of bother after losing seven wickets for just 101. But the comeback man, Dale Steyn, shone with the bat and bailed them out of a precarious situation. His maiden ODI half century and the record 8th wicket partnership with Andile Phehlukwayo helped the Proteas get a respectable total eventually. Zimbabwe's batting flopped but a word of praise for their bowlers. Everyone contributed and will be really disappointed with the way their batsmen responded.
To be honest, the visitors never got going in this run chase. They braved the early challenge by trying to survive the first spell of Steyn and Ngidi but post that it was a meek surrender. Imran Tahir was the chief tormentor as he bagged a 6-wicket haul (which included a hat-trick) and made a complete mockery of Zimbabwe's batting. The red team clearly lacked the required quality and there is a big question mark over their progress.
Zimbabwe were after a tricky target. 199 may not look too big but on a spicy pitch, it's definitely very difficult. To add to that, their fragile batting department and South Africa's potent bowling attack. The picture was more or so clear after watching the way Lungi Ngidi and Dale Steyn initiated with the new balls. They were smoking hot and were banging in thunderbolts. At one point of time, the track looked very dangerous for batting but then it settled down a bit once the bowlers with lesser pace came into the attack.
South Africa have thrashed Zimbabwe here to take an unassailable lead in the series. They are all smiles as Imran Tahir is leading them off the park. Handshakes near the boundary line. It has been a total domination and demolition.
Imran Tahir to Tendai Chatara. OUT! SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 120 RUNS! Tahir finishes with a 6-wicket haul. What a performance by the leggie! A long hop this time, on middle, Chatara goes deep inside the crease with the pull shot but fails to get enough power behind it. A straightforward catch for Steyn in the deep mid-wicket region. All over for Zimbabwe in this match and the series.

Dale Steyn to Donald Tiripano. Grown up watching Donald Duck and Chip 'n' Dale. This is something like that. Comical. Donald Tiripano stays behind inside the crease to Dale Steyn. Expecting a short stuff but gets a not-so-short-one on leg. He jumps and defends it to short leg.

Dale Steyn to Tendai Chatara. Ha ha ha! It's fun to watch a number 11 facing a pace bowler of Dale Steyn's quality. Chatara just backs away expecting a bouncer. Then he finds that it's on a length around off, somehow touches it with his bat and pushes it towards covers. Runs to the other end more to save his life. Not sure Donald Tiripano will be too keen to face Steyn either.
Dale Steyn is back on. A short leg is in place. Time for some short stuff?
Imran Tahir to Donald Tiripano. Defended off the front foot by the batsman presenting the full face of the bat.
Imran Tahir to Donald Tiripano. FOUR! Tahir bowls a rare bad delivery today. Drops it short outside off and Tiripano cashes in by slapping it through backward point for a boundary.

Tendai Chatara is the last batsman for South Africa.
Imran Tahir to Kyle Jarvis. OUT! Castled! A fifer for Tahir, his third in ODIs. Jarvis with an attempted slog over the leg side. It's a googly and that could have been middled but Jarvis is way too early into the shot. He is already done with the swing of his bat as the ball arrives late and disturbs the timber. Just one more wicket left for South Africa to seal the series.
Imran Tahir to Donald Tiripano. Shortish and on off, punched off the back foot through cover-point for one.
Imran Tahir to Donald Tiripano. Three wides. Down the leg side, Tiripano fails to flick and it goes off the keeper's pads to fine leg. Two taken.
Imran Tahir to Kyle Jarvis. Flatter and on middle, turned in the gap on the leg side for a run.
Kyle Jarvis is the new man in.
Imran Tahir to Brandon Mavuta. OUT! HAT-TRICK FOR TAHIR! He is up and running in celebration. What a bowler! What a magnificent bowler! A googly is too good to read for the new batsman. It lands outside off, Mavuta has no idea about the variation as he plants his front foot forward in defense. But is of no use as the ball lands, turns back in, beats the inside half of his bat and lights the stumps. He's over the moon, this is the fourth occasion that a South African bowler has taken a hat-trick in ODIs.
Brandon Mavuta is in next.
Imran Tahir to Peter Moor. OUT! Another batsman is trapped in front of the stumps. This is getting all too easy for South Africa. Tahir has three now. He fires in a quicker delivery, full and on middle, Moor plays down the wrong line, his bat is way wide of the ball as he takes a blow on his front pad. They appeal and Moor's innings is no more now. Dead duck.
Andile Phehlukwayo to Donald Tiripano. A bouncer to end the over and Tiripano ducks under it.
Donald Tiripano is the new man in.
Andile Phehlukwayo to Elton Chigumbura. OUT! EDGED AND TAKEN! They are now falling like a pack of cards! Length ball around off, Chigumbura tries to punch it through the off side but there is not a lot width to play the shot. The ball takes the outside edge and goes towards second slip. Hendricks there takes it easily.
Andile Phehlukwayo to Elton Chigumbura. Back of a length again on off, kept out.
Andile Phehlukwayo to Peter Moor. On the shorter side outside off, Moor tries to push it but the ball stays a low. It hits the bottom half and goes down to third man for a run.

Andile Phehlukwayo to Peter Moor. Back of a length around off, Moor keeps it out.
Andile Phehlukwayo is back on.
Elton Chigumbura walks in next with Zimbabwe staring down the barrel.
Imran Tahir to Sean Williams. OUT! Now we know why Klaasen was so confident, Williams has nothing behind the line and he has been given his marching orders. Tahir gets his second and now Zimbabwe have half the side back in the hut. The googly got the better of Taylor and now it gets the better of Williams. He lunges and tries to defend but is beaten by the away turn. Klaasen takes the bails off and appeals. He seems very confident as the umpire takes it upstairs. The replays roll in and they show, Sean fails to drag his feet back in.
Have South Africa got another? Klaasen is very confident as he whips the bails off in a flash and appeals for a stumping. They have taken it upstairs. Williams is the man in question.
