Bangladesh vs Zimbabwe Highlights And Cricket Score 1st Match - ODI Commentary
272 is the target then for Zimbabwe. Going by their batting in South Africa, one will not be too hopeful of a fight. But as a fan, we certainly hope that we get a contest.
Jarvis says that he is personally happy with how he want but looking from the team's perspective, he says that he would have been happier had they restricted Bangladesh to 220 or beyond. Admits that in the middle phase, they got 3-4 quick wickets and at that point, they felt they could restrict Bangladesh to 220 but credits Imrul Kayes for his fantastic knock. Is still hopeful of a win but feels at least 2 batsmen need to get a big score.
'Well begun is half done', goes the saying. Zimbabwe started really well but unfortunately they could not finish it off. They had the opportunity to keep the hosts under 200 but they have conceded much more. Kyle Jarvis was at his best, getting his maiden ODI 4-fer while Chatara got some free wickets towards the end, finishing with 3. Here is Jarvis having a chat with Athar Ali Khan.
The home side needed someone to hang around with Imrul Kayes and Mohammad Saifuddin was chosen as that guy. The former had to cut down his attacking strokes and the run rate dropped down. However, the duo then started to attack from the 35th over. From there, the visitor simply could not get back. The pair added a wonderful 129 for the 7th wicket with the last 15 overs going for 114 runs.
After electing to bat on a sluggish surface, the hosts struggled big time. They could not quite gauge the surface and lost their wickets cheaply. The middle order then staged a recovery but Jarvis' second spell broke their back. They lost 3 wickets for 2 runs in the space of 15 balls and at that stage, it seemed like they will fold up for 175 or less. But Bangladesh had other ideas.
Tremendous recovery from Bangladesh. That will be an understatement. Down in the dumps at 139/6, a 127-run stand for the 7th wicket has completely turned the game around.

Seems like there is an issue with something. Hamilton Masakadza is having a long chat with umpire Sharfuddoula. Not sure what it is about. Ed Rainsford on air informs us that Kyle Jarvis can bowl only 9 overs. Why? Because he spent that much time off the field. Not quite sure whether this has been newly incorporated in the rules. Meanwhile DRINKS come on.

Donald Tiripano to Mohammad Saifuddin. The batsman has defended it by getting right behind the line of the delivery.
Donald Tiripano to Mohammad Saifuddin. Outside off, a play and a miss.
Donald Tiripano to Mohammad Saifuddin. NOT OUT. Cannot exactly say what would have been going through the third umpire's mind. To the first look via the naked eye, it seemed out. Straight into the fielder's hands. It was a length ball outside off and Saifuddin guided it straight to Craig Ervine at first slip. The fielder took it low and then claimed the catch. However, the umpire was not sure and took it upstairs. Now, the second look. It still seems out - right into the palms. But then, when they try to zoom, it seems like we are watching a pixellated movie. In such films, the more you zoom, the blurred they become. The replays are zoomed in, ultrazoomed, then zoomed out but eventually given NOT OUT.
Is that wicket number 7? Saifuddin has guided it towards first slip and Craig Ervine is claiming the catch. Umpire Dharmasena though has shaken his head but then referred it upstairs. The soft signal is NOT OUT.

Kyle Jarvis to Mahmudullah. OUT! Two wickets in the over! Jarvis has brought Zimbabwe firing back into this contest. But a debatable decision. On a length outside off, Mahmudullah looks to defend but at the last moment, seems to be withdrawing his bat. There is a noise as the ball goes past and Jarvis appeals, with the umpire raising his finger. Mahmudullah immediately reviews and here comes the tricky part. Snickometer shows a spike when the ball passes the bat. But if you compare it with the sideways angle, it seems like the ball has passed the bat and the sound is of the bat hitting the pad. However, the benefit of doubt is given to the bowler, perhaps because the on-field umpire gave it out. Big, big decision. Could be the turning point in this game.

Massive wicket for Zimbabwe. The Kayes-Rahim stand was just developing big proportions and it has been broken just when it was about to touch 50. The bowling has been more or less disciplined, but on a pitch which seems to be aiding turn, they need to bowl Bangladesh out under 200. Or restrict them. Rahim could have played for a long time on this type of a wicket. Here is MOHAMMAD MITHUN.
Brandon Mavuta to Mushfiqur Rahim. OUT! There is a big deflection and Rahim has to go! Good review from Taylor and Masakadza. A short ball, down the leg side, Mushfiqur went back to pull but missed. Taylor convinced his skipper to for the review and Snickometer showed a big deflection when the ball went past the glove. OUT! The stand is broken one short of 50.
Now, now, now.... is Rahim out? Taylor is confident that he has caught him down the leg side. Which keeper will get the umpire's verdict in his favour? Review taken by Zimbabwe.

TOSS - BANGLADESH HAVE WON THE TOSS AND ELECTED TO BAT.
We are all set for the home season of Bangladesh to get underway. Zimbabwe are the challenge in front of them - slated to play 3 ODIs and 2 Tests. The home side, no doubt, will be the favourites to win but Zimbabwe can perhaps play with more freedom and cause a surprise.
That is it from us for this game then! Comfortable win for Bangladesh. Will it be the same come the second ODI? We move to Chittagong. Sorry, the new name is Chottagram. More spin will be evident there. The match is scheduled on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at 2 pm local (0800 GMT). Do join us for that. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
IMRUL KAYES HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAN OF THE MATCH. Thanks the almighty for the big knock today. On his approach, he says that the wicket was not easy to bat on and he thought of staying till the end. Admits that with wickets falling around him, he was feeling the pressure but then was even more determined to bat deep.
Winning Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza manages a smile but is NOT entire happy with his side. Points out the early loss of wickets, then the collapse in the middle but then praises Saifuddin and Kayes for batting sensibly and professionally. Feels that the bowling was 'alright'. On being asked about not going for the kill when Zimbabwe were in dire straits, Mashrafe says that the batsmen were batting well and he wanted to try out some new bowlers. Also, stresses that Mustafizur had a slight niggle, hence he did not want to put stress on him.
Zimbabwe skipper, Hamilton Masakadza says that his team needed just a couple of things to go its way and points at that Ervine catch not being given. Praises Jarvis for coming back well after that early niggle. Is very happy that he put his hand up with the bat too. On the game summary, he says that the team won some blocks of 10 overs but the other blocks were so bad that they lost the plot completely. On the track, he is surprised to see it being so dry and reckons that batting was very difficult.
Okay... time now for the presentation. Not too many candidates for the Man Of The Match one would suppose...
Mehidy Hasan is having a chat with Athar Ali Khan. Says that he always likes to bowl with the new ball and hence opened the bowling. Admits that the first spell was not his best because he was not able to adjust his length but is happy that he managed to come back well. On the challenge of bowling in Powerplay 1, Mehidy says that the pitch was turning and he was confident he could get the batsmen out trying to play their shots. Is very happy with his return catch and also his 3-fer. Agrees that Bangladesh are very confident and will look to win the second ODI as well.
Decent bowling from Bangladesh. Captain Mortaza had an off day but his unit was superb. Mehidy Hasan set the tone early, running through the middle order, eventually ending with 3 scalps while Mustafizur took the all-important wicket of Zhuwao, which triggered the collapse. Nazmul Islam was incisive and accurate, which piled on the pressure.
Coming to the run chase, it was another disappointing show from the Zimbabweans. Cephas Zhuwao showed a lot of promise against the new balls but then once he got out, the rest simply could not even rotate the strike. The likes of Moor, Williams and Ervine actually tried to bat deep and then hit big towards the end but the last part never came.
Let us revisit that catch taken by Craig Ervine at first slip of Saifuddin. Over number 31, ball number 4. Bangladesh were amidst a collapse, at 141/6. Saifuddin had not even open his account. Had that been given, well, you never know...
Well, the result might seem like a close encounter, but in reality, it was not. It was done and dusted around the halfway mark itself and the stubbornness from the Zimbabwe lower order batsmen to not throw their wickets away got it close. On the flip side, there were a few turning points which might have seen Zimbabwe on the winning side tonight.

However, Imrul Kayes, in spite of batting the whole of the first innings almost, hares to his left from long off, picks up the ball cleanly and in one motion, releases the ball.
