West Indies tour of Sri Lanka 2020

Chasing a total of 308, the Caribbean side got off to a brilliant start as the top-three piled up half-centuries. However, Mathews unleashed his bowling skills and rattled the Windies middle-order. As a result, the visitors fell six runs short of the Lankan total and the home side registered a 3-0 whitewash.

After a closely fought win in the opening match of the series, Sri Lanka registered a convincing win in the second ODI. The one-wicket victory in the first ODI was followed by a compressive 161-run win. Both the teams are expected to make some changes going into the last ODI.

Both the batsmen went to score their respective centuries and also scripted history in the process. The two added 239 runs which is the highest third-wicket partnership for a Sri Lankan player in ODI history. They surpassed the legendary pair of Marvan Atapattu and Mahela Jayawardene who piled up 226 runs for the third wicket against India .

Caribbean opener Shai Hope struck a century in the opening game of the series and will be expected to extend his golden run in Hambantota too. Other than him, pacer Alzarri Joseph delivered an impressive spell, scalping three wickets. For Sri Lanka, all the top-order batsmen like Avishka Fernando, Kusal Perera and skipper Dimuth Karunaratne got good starts.

The batsman played several glorious shots during his 115-run knock and also claimed a prestigious record. By scoring his second run of the match, Hope surpassed Babar Azam to become the fastest batsman to reach the landmark of 1000 ODI runs on Asian soil.

West Indies come into the series after hosting Ireland in a three-match series at home in January. West Indies won that series 3-0 and now will be looking to do well against better opposition Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s last ODI assignment was against Pakistan in Pakistan, and they lost it.
