West Indies vs India Highlights And Cricket Score 2nd Match - Test Summary

End of Over : 16.1 IND: 75/0

So, that is it from this game. Another convincing win for the hosts. They were expected to blow the Windies away and that is what they have done. However, it is not time for the teams to shift their attention to the one day format. The first ODI will take place on the 21st of October at 1400 local (2030 GMT). Till then, take care and goodbye!

Indian skipper, Virat Kohli, says he didn't expect Windies to put them under such pressure early in the day. States that they were quite clinical with the ball and the familiar conditions helped as his players stepped up. Mentions they deserved to win the Test. On the new players, he explains that they have grabbed the opportunities given to them which is pleasing to see. Singles out Umesh Yadav and praises his performance as he thinks it's a big effort to do that, especially on Indian conditions. When asked about the pace options, Virat feels it's one of those good problems and he prefers to be in this position rather than have a drought of it. Adds that this game was tougher compared to the last one, so batting in the first innings was rather challenging, especially against someone as consistent as Jason Holder. Credits the displays from players like Prithvi Shaw, Ajinkya Rahane and Rishabh Pant. Ends by thanking the crowd for coming out and supporting the team.

Man of the Series, Prithvi Shaw, says it feels great to score the winning runs for his country. Adds that it means a lot to win the Man of the Series Award in his very first Test series. On his teammates, he says all of them are quite entertaining on and off the field and it's good to have them around. Wants to just keep winning matches for the team and his dream is to win the World Cup for India.

Man of the Match, Umesh Yadav, wants to thank his teammates and support staff first up for helping him improve his game. Adds that he saw it (Shardul Thakur's injury) as an opportunity to get more wickets since he was the only pace bowler in the side and just gave it his all. On the Indian pace supply, mentions that competition is a good thing and everyone just tries their best for the team.

Windies skipper, Jason Holder, says he is disappointed with the batting in the second innings. Feels they put themselves in a really good position, just needed to push a little bit more. Credits the Indians for the way they played. Continues saying that the pacers did well and in hindsight playing Kemar Roach would have been a better option. Reckons there are some positives to take despite the loss, but just have to work on their weaknesses and improve. Feels he's personally in a good head space and he loves playing Test cricket.

Now Ravi Shastri's turn to give an interview and he says there are a lot of positives, they weren't complacent throughout and they were looking to be clinical and the boys were. Appreciates Umesh Yadav's effort as they were a bowler down. Further adds he has grabbed his opportunity with both hands. States a 10-fer by a pacer in India has been done only a few times and Umesh by his performance has shown he belongs amongst the best. Reckons Shaw is born to play cricket and he looks a player who belongs at the top. Feels there is a bit of Sachin, Lara and Sehwag in him and he feels Shaw has a bright future. Says Rahul will be fine, he tries too hard but he will soon start doing well. Ends by appreciating Pant for his work with his gloves and the bat. Stay tuned for the presentation...

Rishabh Pant, who is beside Rahane, says it has been a good experience playing Test cricket as it is something he always wanted to do and he is enjoying it. Admits that the team has helped him a lot along the course. States that he does think about the 100 he missed out on and looks to learn from the mistakes and not repeat it next time.

Ajinkya Rahane, who is up for an interview, says it was a matter of one good partnership. Adds further Pant played really well and also controlled his aggression. Admits he wanted to bat long and create some strong habits in this series. Credits the way Umesh Yadav bowled and he feels the team performed really well.

With the lead set, the hosts came out firing with the ball and knocked the Windies over inside 2 sessions. Umesh Yadav once again led the charge, while all the other around him contributed taking advantage of the conditions on offer. They reduced Windies to a position where they could only post a target of 72 in front of them, which Shaw and Rahul chased down before the end of Day 3. A commanding performance from the Indians, one which they will be proud of.

In response, India were off to a flying start with Shaw making another brisk fifty. But once he fell, India faced a bit of a slump as a few wickets fell. Kohli and Rahane shored things up, before the massive 152-run stand evolved between Rahane and Pant. Though, they fell quite early today, after finishing Day 2 on a high. Ashwin then later came in and contributed some vital runs to give India a lead of 56 runs.

Windies eventually crossed the 300-mark, getting to a decent total, though it was certainly under what they would have wanted. Umesh Yadav was largely responsible for this as he ran riot with a 6-wicket haul and shook the visitors up. Kuldeep joined in with 3 of his own, while Ashwin plucked 1.

A comprehensive victory for India. It's not a frequent occurrence when a team score in excess of 300 in the first innings and still manages to lose the match in 3 days. The Windies opted to bat after winning the toss and the top order failed to get going. But, once again, it was the middle and lower middle order which came to the rescue. Chase and Dowrich made a 50-stand, which was then followed by a century partnership between the former and skipper Holder. Roston Chase went on to score a fine hundred, while Holder made a gritty fifty.

Summary

India and West Indies play in the second and the last Test of the series at Hyderabad starting from October 12. The hosts are in prime form after recording a massive victory in the 1st Test by an innings and 272 runs. The match got over in just three days. West Indies are in dire state and low of confidence and it wouldn't be a surprise to see team India clean sweep the series.

There is hardly any fault in India's batting and Bowling attack. Captain Virat Kohli continued his red-hot form to score his 24th Test hundred. Debutant Prithvi Shaw also scored a century thereby becoming the first batsman to score hundred on his Duleep trophy, Ranji trophy and Test debut. Ravindra Jadeja also came into the act to score his century. While in Bowling department, spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin made sure the visitors did not survive for too long on Indian pitches. Virat Kohli might spring a surprise and hand some more debuts in the 2nd Test.

West Indies are in a very bad condition. Their inexperienced batting line-up should at least give a fight to the Indian bowling attack. Also, their bowlers should bowl well to restrict the mighty Indian batting to stand some chance to restore some pride going into the One Day Series.
