On the whole, 196 should not be too difficult for Bangladesh. But if Windies bowl well and take a few quick wickets, it will be interesting to see the response. Join us back at 5.15 pm local (1115 GMT).
Superb bowling from Bangladesh. They concentrated on just bowling consistent lines and lengths and did not over-attack. They were not at their best on the field, dropping 4 catches, yet, it never seemed like they got frustrated. Mehidy and Shakib, who opened the attack, were economical while Mustafizur and Mortaza picked up 6/65 amongst themselves in 20 overs combined. Rubel also would have had a great outing but he lost the plot at the death. His first 8 overs went for 32 but his final 2 yielded 29.
Poor batting effort from the Windies, yes, but one cannot fault them totally. They tried everything. First, they looked to settle in and then play their shots. Could not get much runs. Then, they tried Hetmyer's approach - slogging wildly and get quick runs, did not muster anything. It was during the Chase-Paul stand that the batters actually got used to the pitch but by then it was too late.
The openers took their time, biding out the spinners with Shai Hope keeping the innings steady. However, the collapse started at the fall of Bravo's wicket. The second wicket fell at 64 and the Windies then slipped down to 127/6, before a breezy 51-run stand between Roston Chase and Keemo Paul took them close to 200.
The Windies will be disappointed to say the least - 195 is not what one expects after electing to bat. But the fact that they were 127/6 with not many batsmen left to come will make them feel a bit better. Overall, they were consumed by the two-paced deck.

On picking three seamers in the playing XI, Mashrafe says that in England, three seamers would be required, so the hosts are planning from now itself. On losing the toss, Mortaza says that chasing has been the forte. Then cheekily says that he is not sure what are the Windies doing and smiles when he is informed about the same.
Windies captain, Rovman Powell, says that the decision is based on the fact that the pitch looks a good one to bat on. Victorious Bangladesh captain, Mashrafe Mortaza has been named the MAN OF THE MATCH. Feels that Windies are dangerous in this format and hence, is happy with his bowlers for keeping them quiet and not allowing the opposition to forge a partnership. On the ploy to open with spin, Mortaza says that he just wanted to spring a surprise, given the way the Windies collapsed against spin in the Tests. Praises Rahim, Liton and Shakib for playing well and being professional. On his upcoming 200th match in the third ODI in Sylhet, Mashrafe deflects the question away, saying that he has got other challenges in mind, stating that the second ODI is to be played first.
Windies skipper, Rovman Powell, admits that the toss was a big factor. Agrees that the batting was not great which brought about their downfall and hopes that there is a better performance in the next game. Scrutinizes that batsmen getting in did not make use of their starts. On the pitch, Powell says that he thought that the difficulty to bat would have been only for some time but got surprised to see that for so long. Credits the entire support staff and the seniors for helping him in his captaincy stint.
Should Powell have elected to chase? There was plenty of dew around and the bowlers were finding it difficult to grip the ball. Worth a thought if he does win the toss in the second game, which is at this same venue. As he impressed in India, Oshane Thomas rung the alarm bells here as well. But only in his first spell. Perhaps Rovman Powell could have set attacking fields. Maybe, he might have got a couple of more wickets. Bangladesh were 2 down in Powerplay 1 but once the fielding restrictions were over, the Windies just spread the field, allowing a partnership to grow. Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das made full use of that, soaking in the early pressure and then the former used his experience to guide his side through, with help from Shakib.
196 was never a massive target but the Windies could have made the victory a bit difficult. They dismissed Tamim and Kayes in the span of 5 balls but the Rahim-Das partnership pegged them back. And then, Shakib's cameo sealed the deal.
Easy peasy then. Won't say the hosts have won without breaking a sweat as losing two quick wickets would have put a doubt in their minds but eventually, the lack of a bigger target enabled them to cruise home.
