End of Over : 50.0NZ: 364/4
Should be exciting if it goes the way the last two games did. Can Sri Lanka salvage some pride or will the Black Caps complete the clean sweep? Join us for the chase in some time.
So once more, Sri Lanka have faltered with the old ball. They conceded 57 runs off the last 3 overs. The target set is really huge and Sri Lanka will have to go at an RPO of more than 7 right from the start. Not going to be easy but with the series already gone, they have nothing to lose and should go for the win.
Henry Nicholls is caught down for a chat. He feels great to have a big total on the on the board and feels good to contribute to it. Hopes that his side defends it. On batting with Ross Taylor, he reckons that they complement each other well. Mentions that it was fun and the crowd has come in good numbers.
In came Henry Nicholls and along with Ross Taylor kept the scoreboard ticking early on with singles and doubles. Once they got set, they went bonkers. Ross Taylor started it off and got to his 20th ODI century. He reached 137 before finally falling to Malinga but that did not stop Nicholls. In fact, he went into fifth gear and smashed the balls to all parts en route to his maiden ODI ton. He and Neesham put up a 63-run unbeaten stand (off 23 balls) and powered New Zealand to a total of 364 which looks way above par on this wicket. Facing the likes of Ish Sodhi would not be easy on this wicket which is holding up slightly.
What an incredible batting performance! 161/3 was the score at the 30-over mark and they scored 203 runs in the next 20 overs. A complete batting performance by the Kiwis even though the openers went quite cheaply. 32 fours and 9 sixes in this innings. Tells you quite a story. A bowler of Lasith Malinga's calibre being destroyed at the back end. The innings started off in a slow fashion, with the first Powerplay seeing the Kiwis get to 55 for the loss of two wickets. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor then joined hands to put up a stand of 116 and set the platform up for the bashers who would come in later. Williamson looked really well set before getting out after his fifty.
49.61
Nuwan Pradeep to Henry Nicholls. Just a bye off the final ball. A clever slower one by the bowler, angling down, Nicholls tries to be cheeky with his paddle scoop but fails to connect. They cross and New Zealand end on a massive 364/4, with 24 runs coming off the last over!
49.52
Nuwan Pradeep to Henry Nicholls. NOT OUT! He is super quick! A full toss this time, on off, it's forced down to long off and Nicholls scampers back for the second run. The throw from the deep is towards the non-striker's end where the bowler cannot collect it cleanly and the ball eventually comes to the keeper who breaks the stumps. Seems the batsman could just be in due to the ball being slowed down slightly. They appeal and it's referred upstairs. The replays find Henry safely in. 23 from the over so far, total carnage!
Appeal for a run out! The square leg umpire has taken this one upstairs.
49.46

48.66
Lasith Malinga to James Neesham. SIX! HUGE! 19 off the over! Malinga has conceded more than 90 in his quota of overs. The second time he has done that in ODIs. Coming to this delivery, it's a length ball on middle and leg, Neesham gets his front leg out of the way and smashes it over cow corner deep into the crowd. Incredible batting but very poor bowling.
48.6wd
Lasith Malinga to James Neesham. Wide! A short ball that is way off the radar! Goes too short, almost a half-tracker. The ball bounces over the head of the batsman and down the leg side as well. Wide signalled by the umpire without any hesitation.
48.54
Lasith Malinga to James Neesham. FOUR! Neesham gets into the act this time. Slower ball on the ribs, James swivels and gets it fine on the leg side and away from a diving Dickwella. No stopping that once it has passed the wicket-keeper.

Lasith Malinga to James Neesham. DROPPED! Sitter dropped by Pradeep. Malinga bowls it full on middle, Neesham flicks it uppishly but straight to the mid-wicket fielder who drops an easy catch. One run added to the total.

Good yorker length ball outside off and Nicholls goes for the drive but manages to only get an outside edge that runs fine of short third man to the fence. Nicholls moves into the 90s.
Ross Taylor gives a quick interview on his way back. He is delighted to get a century and says that at the start of the match, they would have taken a score of 300. Adds that it's a good wicket and hopes they take this total close to 320-330. Mentions that he is just keeping it simple and is happy that it has worked. On scoring his 20th ODI hundred, he replies that he would have taken that at the start of his career and hopes to get a few more.

46.64
Lasith Malinga to Henry Nicholls. FOUR! Short and easily dispatched away to the deep mid-wicket boundary by the set batsman. It was a slower short of a length ball and just outside off. Nicholls waits for it and then muscles it away to the right of the fielder in the deep at mid-wicket. No chance for him to come around and stop it. Lovely batting this! Malinga's over which was brilliant so far is spoiled by the four off the last ball.

The right-handed batsman goes for the pull and though he timed it quite well, he found Dhananjaya de Silva at deep square leg. Dushmantha Chameera to Colin Munro. Around the wicket, hurled in at the thigh pads, jammed away on to the leg side coming half-forward. Single taken.
1.24
Dushmantha Chameera to Colin Munro. FOUR! Two in two! Slower ball this time as Chameera just rolls his fingers over on the ball as he delivered it. The batsman actually was deceived as Munro tried to lift it over mid off. Gets just enough to go over the head of the fielder and to the fence for a boundary. Expensive start from Dushmantha.
1.14
Dushmantha Chameera to Colin Munro. FOUR! Welcomed with a boundary. Length ball outside off, a gentle loosener. Munro drives and gets it in the gap through the covers. Short boundary there and a definite four.
Dushmantha Chameera to bowl with the other new ball.

Lasith Malinga to Colin Munro. Outside off on a length to end the over, Munro tries to drive but gets the inside half of the bat and the ball rolls onto the leg side towards mid-wicket. A quick single taken and Munro retains strike. Signs of this pitch being a bit slow already showing.
0.50
Lasith Malinga to Colin Munro. The radar is back to just outside leg, Munro is early into his flick and misses the ball to get hit on the thigh pad. No run though.

0.21
Lasith Malinga to Martin Guptill. Better bounce on this occasion, on length outside off again. Guptill pushes it towards mid off and sets off for a quick single. NZ and Martin off the mark.
0.10
Lasith Malinga to Martin Guptill. A length ball outside off to start off with, the ball seems to have held up in the surface and Guptill who was looking to defend misses the ball. It goes on a bounce to the keeper, the first ball of the day!
The two opening batsmen, Martin Guptill and Colin Munro are out in the middle. Fielders in position. Lasith Malinga to start proceedings for the Lankans. Two slips in place. Last ODI set to get underway! Let's go...
Pitch report - Mark Richardson with the pitch report. He says it looks like a perfect batting surface. Also says there is a tinge of green grass which will help the pacers with the new ball. Reckons if the bowlers put the ball in right areas, they will get wickets here. Mentions the ground is not that big, especially square of the wicket and there could be a lot of runs. Also adds 275 is a par score here and teams chasing have won 7 out of 9 games.
New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson says that even he would have opted to bowl. Reckons that the surface looks a good one. Suggests that they will have to bat well initially. Says that they have made one change to their side where Lockie Ferguson comes in for Trent Boult. Ends saying that they will look to improve their fielding.
Sri Lankan skipper Lasith Malinga says that their batters are chasing well in the past two games so he wants to do the same thing again. Mentions that they have to bowl well in the first innings. Reckons that the middle order has not been in the best form and wants to correct that. Suggests there is a good chance for them to win the game. Says that they have made three changes to the side. Dinesh Chandimal, Asela Gunaratne and Seekkuge Prasanna are out. Dasun Shanaka, Dhananjaya de Silva and Dushmantha Chameera are in.
TOSS - Lasith Malinga wins the toss and SRI LANKA WILL FIELD!
For New Zealand, they are yet to get a convincing win in spite of bagging the series. In both games, they got a scare and were lucky to be on the winning side. Much like the visiting team, their bowling hasn't been on top while there were as many as six catches put down (technically) which nearly cost them the last match. The Black Caps would like to fine-tune these areas months before the World Cup. They might shuffle their playing XI for this match and that will give Sri Lanka an opportunity to taste their first success on this tour. We are expecting yet another cracking contest. Stay with us for more updates...
Welcome ladies and gentlemen for the third ODI with the series already settled in favour of the home team! The action now shifts to Nelson after a couple of exciting ODIs in Mount Maunganui. A scintillating 74-ball 140 by Thisara Perera brought Sri Lanka within sight of an outstanding win in the last match but as has been the case with them, they somehow fail to cross the final hurdle. Even in the first match, Kusal Perera's valiant century gave them hope but once again the collective batting effort was lacking. They would hope for things to change and improve for better in the last match to avoid a clean sweep. Bowling is another area the tourists would like to work on as they have been conceding runs at a brisk rate at the death with their bowlers unable to create pressure (by picking wickets) in the middle.
End of Over : 41.4SL: 249/10
That is all we have for you from this ODI series. The Kiwis pick up the trophy and pose with it. The two sides now have a one-off T20I game to go. That game will be played on 11th January at the Eden Park, Auckland at 0700 local (0600 GMT). Do join in for that. Till then, cheers!
Kane Williamson says that he is happy to see improvement in every game. Reckons that they were put under pressure in all the games and they did well top come on top. Credits Taylor and Nicholls for their knock today. Adds saying that this is a great team and hopes to continue winning games. On the World Cup he feels that there is still time for it and wants to keep improving on their cricket. Ends saying that they are happy to win 3-0.
Lasith Malinga says the top 4 are getting runs, but he is disappointed that in the last 15 overs they are not bowling well and going for plenty of runs. Also says before the world cup, they need to get team formation right. Mentions Dickwella and Kusal Perera are playing well and would like them to continue their good form. Ends by saying he is enjoying the captaincy and would like the results going in his way in the upcoming matches.
Man of the Match, Ross Taylor, feels that they were nervous at the start and wanted to get things back together. Mentions that all the three games were good and the guys raised their hands and played well. On his batting he mentions that he keeps things simple. On the team batting he says that they grind up first and then catch up well to put the icing on the cake later.
For New Zealand, Lockie Ferguson was the most impressive bowler on show. He was quick and also used smart variations to deceive the batsmen. The other pacers though were not too convincing. Ish Sodhi with a 3-fer also left his impact as he along with skipper Kane Williamson bowled some tidy overs to create pressure.
Once Sri Lanka's top three departed, the middle order failed to cope up with the pressure. The century partnership between Thisara Perera and Danushka Gunathilaka reignited some hope in the Lankan camp but once the former fell to a stunning catch by Martin Guptill, the writing was on the wall. The last five wickets went down for just 5 runs as New Zealand registered a convincing win to make it 3-0.
A big win for the Kiwis this time! They weren't clinical in the previous two games but today everything clicked. Powered by Taylor and Nicholls' centuries, they posted a massive total on the board and then their bowlers put their best foot forward. However, at the beginning, the Lankan openers managed to scare them. In fact, they were going on smoothly initially and did well to keep the required rate under control.
41.4W
Ish Sodhi to Nuwan Pradeep. OUT! Timber! All over for Sri Lanka. New Zealand win by 115 runs and take the series 3-0! Sodhi comes up with a googly for the number 11 batsman. He lands it outside off and gets it to spin back in. Pradeep swings his bat cluelessly and it goes under his bat to disturb the stumps. The Kiwi players are celebrating in the middle and shaking hands with the Sri Lankan batsmen.
41.30
Ish Sodhi to Nuwan Pradeep. Tossed up ball on middle, Nuwan gets on the front foot in defense.
41.20
Ish Sodhi to Nuwan Pradeep. Full and flighted on the pads, it's played off the pads to square leg.
Nuwan Pradeep is the last man to the crease. A slip in place.
41.1W
Ish Sodhi to Lasith Malinga. OUT! Stumped! Lovely googly! The ninth one is gone! Malinga goes off the first ball he faces. Flighted beautifully on middle and Lasith comes down the track to slog it over mid-wicket. But what he doesn't read is the googly. The ball goes the other way after landing and the SL skipper is completely at sea. Seifert whips the bails off immediately. From 244/5 to 249/9. 4 wickets for 5 runs. The Lions have imploded quite spectacularly. One to go for 3-0.
Ish Sodhi back for another spell.
End of Over : 411 RunsSL: 249/8
40.60
Lockie Ferguson to Lakshan Sandakan. Play and a miss! Outside off, a speedy one, Sandakan throws his bat at it and misses. A couple of wickets from the over!
Lakshan Sandakan walks in at number 10.
40.5W
Lockie Ferguson to Danushka Gunathilaka. OUT! Another one bites the dust and Ferguson gets his fourth! As mentioned earlier also, Gunathilaka is quite stiff and that means he has very limited movement inside the crease. Lockie hurls in a sharp length ball at 142.2 kph and angles it into the left-hander. Danushka remains glued inside the crease, probably in an attempt to run it down to third man but it takes the bottom half of his bat and cannons onto the stumps. The last recognized batsman is also sent packing. End is nigh for Sri Lanka.
40.40
Lockie Ferguson to Danushka Gunathilaka. Fullish and on off, driven off the front foot to extra cover.
40.30
Lockie Ferguson to Danushka Gunathilaka. Oohhhh...this one nearly rolls back onto the stumps. A length ball angling into the batsman, Danushka offers a straight bat in defense but after blocking the ball moves back and goes over the stumps. Gunathilaka, who's a bit stiff, stood there watching the ball and didn't even try to shoo it away with his bat. Lucky there.
Lasith Malinga, the skipper makes his way to the middle now.
40.2W
Lockie Ferguson to Dushmantha Chameera. OUT! Pouched by Southee running to the left from mid off. Around the wicket and bowled at good pace, 142.8 clicks outside off stump. Chameera just tries to loft the ball over cover but it just goes up in the air. Southee runs to his left and takes the catch at extra cover. Good take. The seventh one goes, I sense just formalities remaining now.

38.40

Dushmantha Chameera is the next batsman to the crease.
38.3W
Lockie Ferguson to Thisara Perera. OUT! Martin Guptill flies like Superman and has taken a stunner! Take a bow, MG! Slower delivery has done the magic here. New Zealand have managed to remove the danger man and Sri Lanka's last hope is back in the pavilion. It's short and around off, Perera goes deep inside the crease and tries to flat-bat it through the line. But it catches the outside half of his bat and loops in the air behind backward point. Guptill runs back a bit, sticks his left hand out and plucks a stunning one-handed catch with a dive. Wow, catches like these win you matches. End of yet another threatening knock by Thisara Perera as well as the 101-run partnership that was really looking like taking the game away from the Kiwis. New Zealand can now smell 3-0!

36.51
Tim Southee to Thisara Perera. On the pads, worked away to deep square leg for a single.
36.40
Tim Southee to Thisara Perera. DROPPED! Is this the second ODI all over again? Thisara going for the big hits, smashing sixes and NZ dropping catches. Looks like. This is a slower ball outside off, and Perera tries to loft it over mid off. Mistimes this one as he gets the thick outside half and it carries to Taylor at cover. He tumbles while trying to take catch and grasses the opportunity. Another life for TP!
36.4wd
Tim Southee to Thisara Perera. Wide! The pressure is showing as he sprays this down the leg side. The umpire signals wide.
36.34

Lockie Ferguson to Kusal Perera. OUT! Lockie Ferguson worked on good pace and has finally dismissed Kusal. Great comeback from him after getting pulled for a six on the first ball. Steams in from 'round the wicket and dishes out a sharp fuller length ball outside off at 144.2 kph. Kusal stands back to swing his bat across the line but fails to middle his shot. Also, there is some noise as it goes behind to the keeper. Seifert takes the catch, he appeals and the umpire agrees. KP doesn't look too sure but still goes for the DRS after consulting his partner. The replays roll in and Hotspot finds a tiny spot on his bat. The Ultra Edge also picks that disturbance. Kusal has to walk back. Ferguson who thought otherwise is delighted. He didn't appeal also and credit to the wicketkeeper here. Body blow to Sri Lanka.
Kusal Perera has been adjudged caught behind! He walks forward towards his partner and then takes the DRS. Ain't looking too sure there.

20.20
Lockie Ferguson to Kusal Perera. Short of a length outside off, kept out towards point by Kusal riding the bounce of the ball.

Ish Sodhi to Dasun Shanaka. OUT! LBW! Misses the ball, gets struck plumb in front and the umpire has raised his finger without a second thought! Flighted ball on middle, Shanaka goes for the sweep and is beaten in flight as he misses the ball. Caught in front of middle, the umpire raises his finger immediately. Even if the umpire hadn't given that out, the batsman would have been run out as the ball lobbed off Dasun's pads and went behind. Seifert catches it and tries to flick the stumps down but misses. Taylor behind though picks it up and removes the bails. Shanaka was in wilderment, did not know where the ball was. But it never went till there as it was adjudged LBW straightaway. Hawk Eye later on shows us that it would have gone on to hit the middle of middle stump. Sri Lanka losing their way massively after a couple of good stands early on. Four down now for 117. NZ firmly ahead in the game.
End of Over : 177 RunsSL: 117/3

15.41
Ish Sodhi to Dasun Shanaka. Loud appeal but turned down! Looked really close! Slower through the air, lands this on a length, and the ball seems to turn a bit towards off. Shanaka misses his flick and gets rapped on the pad, in front of the wickets. There is an appeal but the umpire is not interested. Maybe height was an issue. NZ decide not to review. Replays rolling in show us that the ball was in line, struck the pad in line as well and would have gone on to clip the top of leg stump. So in hindsight, a review would have just been a waste of time.

Huge blow for the Lankans. Flighted ball outside off, Perera defends it on the off side with soft hands and sets off for a quick single. The ball rolls in front of square on the off side and Williamson hares across to his right from the cover region. He picks up the ball and throws it in one motion. It is right into the keeper's gloves next to the stumps. Brilliant fielding. Seifert flicks off the bails in a flash and appeals. The square leg umpire takes it upstairs. The third umpire has a look at many replays from different angles. Finally even has to zoom in on one frame where the bail goes off and the bat is found to be on the line. Flashes the red light. That's a really brave decision. Was touch and go. Two wickets in two balls for New Zealand.
Appeal for a run out! It looks touch and go and has been referred upstairs. Let's wait and watch...

New Zealand vs Sri Lanka Highlights And Cricket Score 3rd Match - ODI Commentary

Lasith Malinga to James Neesham. Wide! A short ball that is way off the radar! Goes too short, almost a half-tracker. The ball bounces over the head of the batsman and down the leg side as well. Wide signalled by the umpire without any hesitation.
Lasith Malinga to James Neesham. FOUR! Neesham gets into the act this time. Slower ball on the ribs, James swivels and gets it fine on the leg side and away from a diving Dickwella. No stopping that once it has passed the wicket-keeper.

Lasith Malinga to Henry Nicholls. SIX! Hundred for Nicholls! His maiden one in ODIs. Deserved this. Has batted brilliantly. Length ball on the pads and Nicholls just smashes it over deep square leg nonchalantly. He then removes his helmet and just raises both his hands as he faces the pavilion. Lovely batting!

Nuwan Pradeep will bowl the 48th over.
Lasith Malinga to James Neesham. Slower ball bouncer once more first up to Neesham. He is too early into the pull and gets hit on the forearm. Runs through for a leg bye.

James Neesham in at number 6.
Lasith Malinga to Ross Taylor. OUT! Taylor has holed out this time! A brilliant innings from Rosco comes to an end. Malinga gets his man in the end. Goes for the slower ball, on a length. The right-handed batsman goes for the pull and though he timed it quite well, he found Dhananjaya de Silva at deep square leg. Taylor did read the pace of the delivery but unfortunately for him, he couldn't get the placement right. Malinga picks up his third and a stunning innings of 137 comes to an end.

Lasith Malinga to Ross Taylor. SIX! Malinga is bowling half-volley after half-volley here. Misses his length once more and Taylor gets under this and lofts it over long on once more. The fielder at the fence is a mere spectator as the ball goes way into the crowd. Brilliant from the Kiwis, not so much from the Lankan skipper. 19 off this over, too expensive.

Sets off for a single but the ball was timed just a little too well and went to Thisara Perera at mid off quite fast. He picks it up cleanly and throws it at the non-striker's end, all in one go. The ball misses the stumps though, would have been really close had he hit. The fielder backing up cannot get around in time and four overthrows result. Lasith Malinga to Kane Williamson. EDGED AND FOUR! That was the difference between Guptill and Williamson. Why Williamson is still out there is because of his soft hands on this one. Another length ball outside off and swinging away a little, Kane waits for the ball to come at him unlike Guptill on the previous ball. The ball takes the edge but does not carry to slip. Runs wide of him and fine for a boundary. Good bowling though from Lasith.
The captain Kane Williamson comes to bat at no. 3.
Lasith Malinga to Martin Guptill. OUT! Caught at gully! Malinga strikes again early, just like he has done in the past two matches.

Lockie Ferguson to Lakshan Sandakan. Play and a miss! Outside off, a speedy one, Sandakan throws his bat at it and misses. A couple of wickets from the over!
Lakshan Sandakan walks in at number 10.

Kusal Mendis comes to bat at no 4.
James Neesham to Niroshan Dickwella. OUT! Dickwella has thrown it away! There was no need for this shot after having got a six already in this over but that is the way he plays and it has brought about his downfall. Second one goes down for the Lankans. Fuller ball outside off on a length, Niroshan goes for the lofted drive over cover. He swings hard but gets a thick outside edge. The ball has good speed on it, 139.5 clicks when delivered. It flies off the outside edge and towards the third man fielder. It seems to be dipping on Lockie Ferguson who was coming in but he does well to stay nice and low, pouching the ball comfortably.
